Just Ordered my 1.6tdi cr Elegance

Featured Replies

Just been and ordered:

1.6 tdi cr Elegance in anth grey ('59' plate in erly Sept)

Only the boss new these cars could even be ordered!

Got 10% off the list price + 0% finance + 3 yrs free service.

Some of you will probs get better deals but given I'n not great at getting good deals I'm happy

Roll on September

How much is the list price? Is it the price for MY10?

I just test drove the 1.4TSi today, thought it was a fantastic motor, but not sure if the 1.6TDi would be better value for money or what the performance would be like.

Given the projected delays on the 1.4 122bhp, unless you want to wait and wait, the 1.6 sounds like a good compromise.

Yeh, what I was tending to think as well, but still wondering what the price difference would be and whether it would be then more sensible to wait.

Could not agree more, once it eventually becomes readlly available, most that try it will be amazed. The idea of a 1.4 in a biggish car like the Octy brings thoughts of sluggish performance - no, no, no, - that 1.4 TSi is an absolute gem in every way - performance, low down torque, refinement, economy and low emissions.

VAG take a bow.

List price is £365 more than the 1.9tdi s/se/elegance list prices:

So for an elegance £16530 Vs £16165

Plus £400 for metalic paint (as normal)

FYI - Greenline trim price is £16155 (solid paint std)

Also greenline is about 2 mpg better then the s/se/elegance (combined).

Thanks evade.

Are those the prices then for MY10?

Has anyone test driven a 1.6TDi in a Golf maybe?

Nice one evade! Should be a really nice car that. Nice to see you taking my advice from your other thread!:D

I think it's a reasonable deal considering the 0% finance and servicing.

Did you specify any options?

aye - thanks again matey.

Only option I took was met paint, considered maxi dot but wasn't that bothered. Needed to keeo the cost low with baby on the way :D

Fair do's. You've got a while yet to reconsider the Maxidot :) . Reasons I'd have it for the sake of £110 are; it has a surpisingly significant effect on making the interior look more upmarket and more importantly and if a little further down the line you fancy swapping the Bolero radio for a Columbus nav (circa £600 now, probably £500 in a few months) or perhaps a bluetooth kit, you've got the display there ready for it to integrate with. I guess my thinking is, it's not such an easy retrofit as the columbus and unlike the columbus, it's cheaper to spec new than buy later.

Out of interest, is this fitted with a DPF and, if so, is this the way-of-the-future for all diesel engines?

Got myself a 1.8tsi to try from Skoda at the mo and it's as quick as my vRS which is a 170 bhp diesel....the petrol one is 160bhp and is very quiet.

What is the 1.4 tsi, a 1.4 with a turbo bolted on?

Agreed there is some other technology there other than the turbo, but a turbo is a lazy engineers way of providing more power.

IF that's the type of engine your so called "lazy engineers" produce, then I for one am all for it. Apart from the enhanced power characteristics, there's the benefits of refinement, fuel frugality and low emissions. Have you driven a TSi?

As far as the 1.4tsi (and the yet to be released 1.2tsi), the key innovations are:- latest generation petrol direct injection technology, water cooled intercooler which allows an extremely low volume turbo to inlet path and variable (inlet) valve timing all of which allows for constant torque from 1500rpm - 4500rpm.

I'll be interested if any of these innovations have found their way into the new 1.6 CR engine.

Their hands are tied really. Current legislation, along with buyer perception means adequate performance and even better economy, combined with low emissions. Turbocharging a smaller capacity engine allows this to be achieved.

Unless you can suggest another way? :)

Obviously I do not know if you have driven the 1.4 TSi but it is an incredibly refined engine much belying its smallish capacity. It feels more like a normally aspirated 2.0 Litre but with a wider torque band and without its penalties regarding fuel consumption and emissions. You only have to look at the quoted torque figures to see how supremely flexible the 1.4 TSi unit truly is and when it's combined with the 7 speed DSG, its the perfect match.

It is a fantastic alternative to a diesel.

I see the benefits, so you're preached to the converted :)

My post was in response to James, further up the post, regards the need for such an engine in the range.

Good, spread the word.

I don't deny the clever tech and benefits of the 1.4TSI but what about the complexity of the engine and potential for breakdown and expensive repairs?

thats what I am concerned about.

would be interested to hear what people say about this....

how on earth did this thread get sooooo off topic.

I'm sure my original post was about the 1.6 tdi cr engine being available to order :P

It's still about engines isn't it? :P

It's what happens in a discussion sometimes - different options get bandied about and different opinions as well.

Now if someone came on and started talking about a recent cinema release, then I'd agree with the off-topic :)
