Stereo "Safe"

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

My battery went dead last week but didnt do anything about it.............

Come today when the car started the Stereo now shows safe and I have no 4 digit code!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The dealer said: Switch on the ignition , power up the stereo, the switch off the engine and back on, the stereo should work - but it hasn't. If no joy he quoted £29+VAT!

Hi Elliot

You have not said how old your car is, but assuming it is the radio that come with the car, by turning on the radio and leave the ign on it should pick up the code, as it is stored in the cpu

Sorry its Oct RS 52 Plate.

My manual says after 1 sec it should show "1--- -" but it just remains on "Safe"

Confused? I am!

IIRC you press one of the mode buttons and it'll wake up if it has previously been fitted and working in your car.

I replied to someone with similar issue not too long ago if you search.

I pressed one of the number keys and it shows the 4 ---- but still no joy when I press one of the mode keys! Looks like its a trip to the local dealer!

Try the up/down button. One of those will do it. Turn it off and back on so you have only SAFE showing then try

Well not totally sure where no go next.

Basically it remains on safe until I press up or down or one of the number keys.

Everything I do it doesn't make any difference, so booked in at the dealer for £15quid

Sorry to say that didn't make any difference, never mind

Hi everyone,

Was speaking with mate last night, he said "if I call the original garage where the car was bought from they would be able to give me the code"

As its Sunday I'm not expecting to get the answer today, so I will call them tomorrow but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this???

Cheers

It's possible but only if you are the original and only purchaser/keeper of the vehicle

Any dealer can do it, but you may have to provided proof of ownership.

Hi,

the original garage didn't have problem giving me the code BUT they didn't have it! So took it to my local Skoda Dealershipo MSB in Darlington, excellent service, cost £13

Is the Stereo met to light up with the normal dash board lights? Although I have the ING ON the stereo doesnt turn off when I turn off the engine and remove the key, is this normal considering I have removed the CD changer and using a box converter for my phone? I maybe thought the Charger lead does more than the changer? Any ideas?

Cheers

The stereo should turn off with the key removed, if it doesnt there are usually 2 causes.

1) you have a blown fuse on one of the 12V feeds to the headunit, this is the usual cause.

2) the previous owner fitted an aftermarket unit and has swapped the 2 12V feeds around in the wiring loom.

Cant seem to find the 12v fuse, anyone help me?

The stereo can also be set to turn off by the on/off button only. If set to 'KEY ON' it will turn off when the ignition key is removed or, if set to 'KEY OFF' only the on/off knob turns the stereo off.

I have setting for this but no joy, must be the fuse

Anyone help with above???

Have you tested the fuses, as well as check the Key= status on the radio's settings?

Key setting correct.

Not sure what fuse number it is?
