Engine Cutting Out

Featured Replies

My car is a TDi 90 bhp T Reg Octavia.

Last night, on the way back from Manchester and in Lane 2 of the A14, my engine cut out. Fortunately I managed to swerve across the lanes between two lorries and coast into a lay-by.

When the engine cut out the panel lit up and all the warning sirens started sounding.

Once in the lay-by it would not start again. What I did notice was that the coil light would not come on when I turned the key in the ignition, although the normal pre-start (oil, battery etc) came on. I left it for a minute and turned the key again and this time the coil light came on and the engine started and ran okay.

Would anyone like to comment on this or point me in the right direction before I take it to Skoda Vindis?

Cheers

Paul

Welcome paul, sorry to hear your woes. Best bet would be the dealer because they can hookup the diag tool and read the fault code that caused the problem. It maybe your battery is becoming weak.

Relay 109 is known to cause the engine to cut-out at random, only for it to restart and run normally later. If nothing obvious turns up on the diagnostic check, have that relay replaced. Read this thread - TDi sudden death syndrome - for further information.

Oh, and welcome to Briskoda, Paul. :wavey:

Skoda Vindis (Cambridge) told me it was a "computer glitch" in the ECU and possibly a touch of dampness around the fuel gauge sender. They charged me

Welcome Paul...

...and no, it is unlikely that you get the same problem again now that you have changed that pesky relay (4 VW group engines...4 times it has happened and always the same relay)

I did it myself and it took 10 minutes. Skoda Vindis wanted me to leave my car with them for a few days while they run diagnostics on the car. What a load of *******s. They simply wanted me to empty my bank account into the cash register.

Do you have a part number and price for the relay in question?
