MPG differences between BLT and ASZ engines...

Featured Replies

I've got one of the first ASZ's with the Golf gearbox and the very long 6th gear. I do a 50 mile run daily to and from work on everything from Dual Carriage way, A-road, B-roads and single track roads and i'll fill it up using the expansion and get a full 2 weeks commuting befor ethe fuel light comes on - average working it out is 510 miles to a tank full - on the dash it says i'm getting a 57.9mpg average, but its more like 51-52mpg

I'm pretty sure all fabia's uses KKK's.

Yes they do, none were fitted with Garrett Turbos.

The KKK arn't that bad, we are going to hear horror stories about them because they are all thats fitted, I doubt there would be much difference if they were all fitted with garretts.

.

Early press cars and launch cars had garretts.

I think i have seen only one vrs with a garrett in my time, rest have been kkk

You guys are making me jealous. Ya reckon vag com might diagnose a problem and does anyone close by have it? Or is it likely to be a fuel and air filter change required? Not being technically savvy when it comes to cars, is this an easy operation?!

Air filter 10 minute job. Fuel filter 20 Minutes on a bad day. You can also get a code reader from Gendan for £39, won't do aircon and adaption etc, but will read and reset engine/ABS/SRS/Auto box codes.

Hope you do not mind a slight change of topic.

I have just bought a tdi 130 Cordoba with an ASZ engine, it has a possible faulty turbo (still diagnosing), in have been offered a turbo from a BLT vrs. If I get turbo and manifold will it be a clean swap for my turbo, and will it be compatible?

More help, if possible. Problem is no turbo boost, with 1 quick test drive boost seems to be OK when cold, but after about 2 min boos gone. Intend to swap MAF and EGR from my Fabia to see if this improves things.

Any comments / suggestions welcome.

from reading bloody loads of threads on this forum, im near certain the BLT engine cars get around 5mpg more than the ASZ engine cars

my average is in my sig

I get a bit of black smoke when I put my foot down buddy, more so than seems usual so maybe it's over-fuelling slightly. Do you know what - I always thought that higher gear = better economy and I often put it in 6th when doing just 40! Maybe this is the key to my problems... I'll drive it in a lower gear on this tank and report back. Thanks so much buddy.

Just put the trip computer on real-time MPG usage and try different gears at the same steady speed and see which on gives you the highest reading. I generally use 30 in 3rd. 40 in 4th 50-60ish 5th and 60+ 6th. As others have said there's a sweet spot around the 1800-2000rpm mark where it seems to be most efficient. Different from my Octy vRS which gets better the lower it revs.

I wouldn't worry too much, I've done the ventectomy so can get in excess of 50L in the tank, With my usual commute 9.5miles each way I can just about get 400miles to the tankemoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

But I did manage Midlothian to Felixstowe (404 miles) on a half tank!

I had a similar problem with mine. Felt really slugish compared to usual and mpg was way down, computer never got above 45mpg, was only geting around the same miles to a tank as you. Cleaned the MAF sensor with some electrical contact cleaner and checked the air filter (K&N) re fitted it and filled up. computer now reads well over 60mpg and one time 71mpg (when driving like a granny). Car feels alot more powerful now to, like it used to! Got 470 to my last tank of fuel which is the most i have ever got since i have had the car!

Car is also a SE same as yours but has a tunit tuning box on it!

Just filled mine up with 41.36 litres of Shell normal diesel, got 390 miles for that which is 43mpg - mostly town driving with longer drive at weekends.

Lowest i've had in the year i've owned it is 350 and highest 460.

All depends on the journey though, stop start will use fuel more.

Try V-Power diesel - you get more MPG and better performance! winwin :)

Only downside is the price ;)
