I thought it might be interesting to see which manufacturer's range of polishes people find best when using machine polishers for paint correction - particularly on VAG paints which are considered to be quite hard.

So - which do you use?

I appreciate the choice of polish within a range also makes a difference, as does pad selection, but the poll will get too complicated if I try to add all that lot in as well.

Feel free to be more specific in the thread though, or mention anything that I have missed off the poll list

I have found Menzerna polishes on Meguiar's pads to be very effective for VAG paint on the DA

Menzerna (power finish) on Sonus pads. It's the only one I've tried but it bloody works.

ive played loosely with a few others but this ime has been the best so far.

All the VAG car's I've done regarding polish/pad combo have been different but if the paint's in fairly poor condition usually 3M Fast Cut Plus on a Megs cutting pad or 3M compound pad to knock out the defects followed by Menz 85RD on a Megs finishing pad to refine usually does the business.

Not a fan of the Menz range other than 85RD although that may now be made redundant by a recent delivery of Megs #205:thumbup:

Agree with you there Chris, 3M Fast Cut Plus is a great polish and I have had some success with the 3M Ultra Fine as well on the Megs Burgundy Pad........

I have used Megs 205 and 105 a couple of times now and I am impressed as I really didn't rate Megs 80 & 83, so for me the vote goes with Megs ATM.........:P

although i dont think i was working it long enough, and in a small enough area, i found the 3M FCP wasnt correcting very much by PC

I have the Gloss-it range and find just the evo polish on a polish pad will correct wonderfully. I have yet to find the need for a cutting pad.

Depends on how bad it is , you use the least abrasive compound you can get away with so light scratches , marring and minor swirls i find will come off with something like Dodo Lime prime and a polishing pad on a dual action.

If i do need to break out the rotary i use in a scale of working up

Dodo Lime Prime

Menz FF106

Menz PO85RD

Megs 83

G10

4000grit wet and dry

2000grit wet and dry

Prior to having a Skoda Octavia, I had a 95 VW Golf in Tornado Red that developed a white bloom on the paintwork. I used Sonus pads with Meguiars DC1,2,3 on a Porters cable polisher after a wash and clay. Further details and before/after pics can be seen at:

Meguiar's UK :: View topic - Tornado Red 95 VW Golf

When I get the time I intend to polish up the Skoda.

Regards

Martin
