Miles to a full tank

Featured Replies

so the record is around 500 on a full tank can anyone better that on here.....

Currently sat on 520 following Fridays drive from Inverness to Derby, via Loch Ness & Fort William. It's sat at the half way point of the red section of the guage, so I reckon it'll probably do 550 - 570 before hitting empty.

It surprises me quite a lot because the journey was done with a weeks worth of camping kit in the boot along with me and SWMBO. Wasn't the quickest of journeys, sat at 70 on the motorway, but there was plenty of overtaking done on the A82 over Ranoch Mor so it was booted a good few times as well.

Don't think I've ever had it that high before.

I have an ex police 4x4 1.8T running on LPG, my figures are below;

Petrol - Taking it easy, mostly on the motorways through France I managed in the region of 430-450 before reserve. About 32-33 MPG (Rough estimate as I now use LPG all the time)

LPG - On a nice easy run I can average around 25 MPG and get around 320-330 miles from a tank (60 Litre)

The car is standard, but I am looking at changing things soon!

Best mileage I've managed is 481 miles on my 1.8t 4x4 - that's when the refill light illuminated - using 55.74 litres. Mainly sedate motorway miles with one passenger and a bit of town driving at each end of the two journeys.

Average MPG over the last 18 months seems to be between 30 and 34 depending on how much my wife drives (she's more heavy footed than me). I think it has decent fuel economy for a car that can be good fun too.

Just an update.

Filled the car in Manchester, drove back to Edinburgh, and a few days commuting, and had to fill it up after 330 miles. :(

That's not too bad!

Assuming you used 50litres/11gal (there's normally about 5litres/1gal left in the bottom of the tank when the gauge is on zero), then that's 30mpg over 330miles.

Motorway should see 35-40mpg, town/lanes probably 20-30mpg.

480miles could be achieved at 40mpg, using the full 12gal tank on a long motorway cruise. Anyone claiming more than that in an RS is speaking out of their hind quarters!

Best I've ever seen is 460miles driving through Germany at night. Worst is about 250miles.

Could be a lot better considering it's mostly motorway driving. That was at steady 70.

Just done a run from Bude (Cornwall) to Preston (Lancs) with SWMBO + 3 Sprogs & a Boot (very) full of luggage. Set cruise to 70 & air-con ON & got just over 50mpg.

Just checked what the journey would have cost by train (Yes! I'm VERY bored) = £390 return

Have done 1150 miles in two weeks & have got 60 miles left of my 2nd tank of fuel

Mine is currently sitting on 546 miles and the reserve light still aint on yet, must be close though! It is a 1.9 TDI 90 so just sips the fuel, don't need much to give just 90 BHP. Strange though as my trip computer is showing slightly less MPG than normal now I have just had a service.... Maybe the air filter was a little clogged up before so the ECU put less fuel in as it was getting less air.

I seem to get a very consistent 360 to a tank in my vRS with a mixture of town and motorway miles. Might expect to get 400 on a long run but don't think I'd ever push mine up to 450. Will be doing an Edinburgh to lands end drive next week but will have bikes on the roof so don't extpect much above 30mpg :(.
