Well, I bravely took it as far as I could, 430 miles motorway driving when I picked up my son, just over 70 miles in and about town, 1 tank, 500 miles, bargain.....

That is very impressive.

But how long did it take, I couldn't go that slow on a run :o

I'm guessing you creep along with very slow pedal movement when getting up too speed as well.

you would have to be driving like a complete granny to get 500 miles out of a tank......if you want a car for mpg targets then buy a diesel...:o:P

I have seen 500 but normally get around 400 doing my commute from Liverpool to London.

Should never had sold the fabia vrs you have to drive to restrained to get good mileage.

On my run to London and back which included driving through central London traffic I managed a caluculated (as in from petrol pump to pump calculated manually not the computer figures) 27.5mpg. I thought that was reasonable considering trhe mods. That was by the book/speed limit driving and low use of brakes.

Doesn't sound very good to me mine does that on the 10 mile mixed run to work. I'd expect low 30's on longer mixed run even high 30's if trying to be economical - whatever that is;) Yours sounds more powerful but what does it matter if you drive slowly/economically?

I think his is well over 300bhp

God knows what it does if you use it then:eek:

Just filled mine up and here are the figures

320 miles and used 39l of fuel 320 miles averaging out at 37.25mpg

Ironically the trip computer was saying 39.2mpg

This is on a tank of standard BP fuel and doing a mixture of town and motorway driving

That's not too bad a margin for error on the trip computer - 5%

I got 42.8mpg (Trip Comp) from Leicester To Wakefield And Back.. Good Times, although i was driving like a granny, it was nice to enjoy the M1 for a change.. not...

My typical about town mileage (morning rush hour, bad stop-start) is about 22, and the best I've ever had on the motorway was 37. Something definitely isn't right, and nobody has managed to work out what yet.

I've been filling up full and measuring every tank for over a year. I have a spreadsheet :o

Best ever was 42 at 60mph indicated from West Sussex home over about 5hrs.

Tend to get around 34 atm with a mix of short sharp town rubbish and the run to work. That nets me around 360m to a tank at a push.

My technique is to drive around as fast as physically/practically possible, to reduce engine running time.

On my 280 mile trip I can easily average 140mph and save 2hours running time. This reduces emissions, and is far safer, due to other road users being exposed to me for as short a time as possible. I try to use as much fuel as possible, to get my moneys worth.

Crash safety is also not an issue at 140mph, as the impact forces would cause me to simply vaporise, allowing me to reassemble myself at a later time.

Drinking petrol during the day also allows me to carry an 'emergency reserve' of fuel, should I need to refill between my normal 800 mile fuel stops.

HTH

I like your style.

Your nor Dr Manhattan are you :rofl:

Bodge,

Having cut out many people from cars (and their victims) that have tried such theory's, take my word for it, "it doesn't work".

However I can see where your coming from, but I in no way advocate breaking the speed limit or taking the Octy RS (or any other car) to it's limit!

You dont want to know:rofl: I guesstimate at around 8-10mpg could even be less:eek:

Yeah, mine is "slightly" modified so as I said I think mid-high 20's is reasonable when you take everything into account. Around town I bet its 15-20 mpg. Thats why my other car neds to be a diesel:D

Go dirty diesel. I get over 60 MPG without even trying. Ive only got the 1.9TDI 90 but it pulls ok and just sips away at the fuel. On a good run I can get over 70 MPG! Its a shame I don't own a Prius though which uses more fuel, that way I would pay less Road Tax. Madness!

I recently drove from Edinburgh to Orkney and back in 24hrs in the Octavia, both journeys pretty much in the hours of darkness, hence quite quiet roads. I was on my own, but with a boot full of gear.

On the way up, with this thread in mind, I decided to stick at 5mph under the speed limit and keep all gear changes to under 2.5k to see what happened. I achieved a shown mpg of 42.9mpg.

Usually when I fill up the tank, the "miles until empty" reads about 390miles (although I toil to get past 330). This time when I filled the tank after that average mpg run, it read 520miles until empty.

On the way back down, I drove very spiritedly on the windies until Golspie, and the average mpg was 32ish.

I stuck to a shown 10% over the speed limit on the way south thereafter, and when I got back to the house, the mpg average had risen to 39.8mpg.

Althought it was very boring, I found that as I was getting tired, it helped to keep me awake to concentrate on economical driving, instead of getting home as quickly as possible which is my normal plan of attack on long journeys on roads like that when in the car.

So, although I found it an interesting challenge, it is not something I shall be repeating when I make the journey again in a few weeks - my size 13 is too heavy

diesels dont count we are talking about proper cars lol:rofl:

Yeah but diesels are the new petrols, and are proper cars now......

:rofl: this thread is so funny people trying to get as many miles out of a tank, think you are on the wrong forum maybe a 'green' one would suit you :rofl::D:D

i can manage about 220 and the tank was empty as in foot down car hesitates, panic and drive like miss daisy to the nearest petrol supplier (not shell v-power).

so the record is around 500 on a full tank can anyone better that on here.....

my lowest is the 220 on the road, can any one better that.:rolleyes:

Nah, the lowest mine has gone to is 265, but that's completely stock, so not ideal..

My thinking is that it'd be nice to have better mileage for those times when I just have to go from A to B and can't enjoy it, but at all other times petrol is a lot cheaper than beer so why not enjoy it? :)

'I'm wasted, went out last night and had ten litres. Worth it, though!'
