Miles to a full tank

Featured Replies

in a 1.8t 4x4, last weekend i filled up the tank and managed to get "only" 420 miles out of it:thumbdwn:

most of the time was spent on the motorway at a steady 80ish, is this normal due to the 4x4?? i was expecting the mpg to suffer but not this bad.

any thoughts why its low, its been on vag-com and is showing no codes.

blame the turbo

on the other hand ., my 1.6 octavia gets 750 Km :)

You've got an 11 gallon tank , so that would be 38mpg to do 420 miles if it was bone dry at the end.

Assuming it had a bit of fuel left then you've probablt got about 40mpg which is pretty good for a petrol turbo at 80mph.

What were you expecting?

are you taking the **** that is really good for a 1.8t

i get about 250 to 300 per tank max lol

what do you expext to get from a turbo'd car.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you serious you say it asif its bad!!!!!

I averaged 31mpg over the weekend trip from Shrewsbury down to Docklands and back up via Brentwood , 381miles and 56 litres of fuel. Motorways clear , just a few 50mph average speed camera stretches. My trip to work is 20 miles each way with about 5 miles dual carriageway to start then A roads, if I'm sensible (ish!) I get 35mpg but if I get on with it on the dual carriageway its back to 31mpg again . 420miles out of a tank is when I get the question " why are we going so slow" You must drive like plod is behind you to get that. I can't do it for more than about 1/2 hour before I get an itchy right foot and drop 2 gears for some fun!

Wot he said lol

I havn't got a 4X4 it's an Octavia 2.0litre 16v petrol and I can only stretch about 360 miles out of a full tank of fuel!!!! Can we swap cars

Kind regards

Paul

I manage to get about 350 ish, although on one run to work i averaged 44mpg!!!! (1.8 vrs)

admittedly i was early and office was not opened, so i sat at 55mpg seeing what i could get!

I haven't used a full tank yet (tto skint to fill it right up!) but I'm getting on average, 115miles to a tenner in my 1.9 TDi 110bhp. I drive like a Granda though!

diesels dont count we are talking about proper cars lol:rofl:

About 350 on average for me. 400 for a run and 300 if it's brisk.

Fair enough!

At the moment I'm getting between 22 and 25mpg according to my trip computer...

And that's driving carefully (like i always do:eek:)

If I plant it, my average drops to about 18mpg..

Think something could be wrong?

My remapped 1.8T 4X4 Estate has averaged 31.68 mpg over the 28581 miles I have driven in it.

The published fuel consumption figures for the 1.8T 4X4 Estate and Hatch are identical, namely:

Urban - 23.3 mpg

Exrtra urban - 39.8 mpg

Combines - 31.7 mpg

I usually fill up before I am bone dry but around town I get a range of about 270 miles.

I got an average of 44mpg though on a run to Scotland with my wife and I trying to beat each other's economy figures.

i saw the grand total of 320 miles from full tank to bone dry last week, that was driving miss daisy though.

think the worst ive done on the road is about 180miles:rofl:

I have to say chaps and chapesses that my trip computer can tell me I am doing 41.1 MPG when driving on the motorway at 60mph! There is no way that my car has ever done that so to me the Skoda's trip computer does rather seem to be VERY optimistic

Just thought I would add that little chesnut

Happy driving though

Kind regards

Paul

My vRS did about 450 miles to the tank on a run, about 320 around town.

When I drive to pick my son up from Somerset, its a good 440 miles roundtrip, when ever I do it, I pretty much do the speed limit with the occaisional booting...

Now I can get there and back, plus have about 80 miles odd left of fuel...

Ofc if I was to boot it everywhere, probably would go in say 280 miles....

Yep, usually around the 300 mark for me, although that was with morrisons petrol, now I'm using V-power from Shell, its coming out at about 330

Did about 300 miles coming back via a unusual route from Yorkshire yesterday - mix of A1, other normal A roads and about 100 miles of B roads, all pretty quick and the car reckons it was doing 32mpg average speed 50. It reckons its got 145 miles left which seems about right from previous experience. Oh aircon on all the time - 28c coming down the A1!

so your syaimg you can get 520miles to a tank no a chance in hell buddy your figures are rubbish...!!!!!

the car will not do that even if you drive well you would have to return 45mpg all the time never never never..........

sorry to jump on you with this but thats well ott

This is making me laugh!!!!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm getting 250 miles to a tank or around 350 on a steady (motorway) run..... And mine is hotter than most other cars here... but then my 6 speed diesel box is quite handy for long journeys.... 100mph @ 2500rpm in 6th.

Anything around 350 for the 4x4 is GREAT!!! Coming from someone who has a VR6 and a 4 litre V8 BMW surely economy can't be on the top of your priorities........

Get a 1.9SDi Fabia otherwise.......

Just my opinion....

Steve:)

I have to say chaps and chapesses that my trip computer can tell me I am doing 41.1 MPG when driving on the motorway at 60mph!

The trip computer takes an average of all the mpg readings it has taken so far since you last reset it (it takes one every 5 seconds IIRC) so if you reset it then drive like a granny for a few miles (get up to speed and then feather the throttle, and take your foot right off when going downhill), you can push the MPG up to well over 40mpg for a while  It soon goes down again after an hour or so of driving and taking more readings.

The best mine has ever done is 425 miles to a tank, that was going to Snowdonia from Kent and back at a constant speed of just over 70mph.

My usual weekly driving (commuting to work and driving it locally at the weekends) is 370 miles to a tank.

If I drive it briskly for a week or so it gets down to about 320 miles to the tank.

The 4x4 turbo is supposed to have a slightly worse mpg figure than the vRS because of the extra weight and drag of the 4x4 system. So to the OP - you really are doing well if you're getting 420 miles to the tank out of a 4x4 turbo!!! :D

Ill have to record the ****ing journey then.......

Done it plenty of times, driving miss daisy.....

And just for the record normally by the time I get back home, I am above 42mpg, I do not cane it going to pick up my son, I stick to the speed limits...
