Miles to a full tank

ok so i'm driving like a grandad, but i'm driving a skoda and i thought that was how we were supposed to drive??

i was just expecting more from a 1.8t in terms of fuel consumption, the corrado is actually better on fuel than the skoda especially on the motorway due to the gearing. and the 540 is only slightly worse than the corrado on the motorway.

i need something more economical so it looks like a car thats powered by the fuel of satan is on the cards then:rotz:

My VR6 was Shocking!!! 250 miles tops ... even at 56 mph lol...

i did have an Impreza WRX and once got 85 miles from one tank... :( they are less than £30 to fill tho...

Sounds like you do need a derv.

I've had a few smaller engined naturally aspirated petrol cars in the past (1 litre Nissan Micra, 1.4 litre Rover for example) and even they struggled to get much more than 40mpg

When I drive to pick my son up from Somerset' date=' its a good 440 miles roundtrip, when ever I do it, I pretty much do the speed limit with the occaisional booting...

Now I can get there and back, plus have about 80 miles odd left of fuel...[/quote']

so your syaimg you can get 520miles to a tank no a chance in hell buddy your figures are rubbish...!!!!!

the car will not do that even if you drive well you would have to return 45mpg all the time never never never..........

sorry to jump on you with this but thats well ott

Right, not so long ago, this thread was up, I stated the above, and in response, basically got flamed by one of the members....

So I just did the journey again, and when I got back I recorded what was on the Trip computer when i got back

Video link : YouTube - Skoda Octavia VRS I MPG

And as i stated in the original post, when I have my 5 yr old, I do the speed limits, strictly, and ofc want my fuel to last there back so no racing.....

Ofc Trip computers are probably not 100% accurate, but I think I have proven my point.... So before you flame someone, just think, just because you have never seen it done, does not mean its impossible.....

LOL, way to go to prove a point.......

Well, it had to be done tbh, I do the trip twice every school holiday period, and get pretty much the same results everytime, and I put my little lad before racing any day, so hence the conservative mpg, average MPH is always ****e anyway, anyone knows that travelling from J28 to J14 on the M25 North bound is ****, and the M4 has plenty supply of road works.... then south bound on the M5 is just joyful, :(

I said I got that sort of economy on a long run and half that around town.

my MK1 VRS does about 37mpg and thats going to work and back , on a run it does about 40-44 mpg .

i get about 350-380 miles on a full tank .

Aye, indeed, v economical if driven economically on a run, my point was proving to a certain member that my figures were not rubbish...

As you may have guessed if someone basically calls me a liar I get a little bit ****y, but it took till now to be able to prove myself correct and the other member a tool...

Had to wait for the school summer holiday to start to do it tho as I only have my lad in the holidays....

on a 1300 mile trip mainly motorways doing 80mph most of the way, i averaged 33mpg. got a little inpatient in the last 200 miles and used more petrol and less mpg than i should have. however, no matter how hard i tried without driving slow, i couldnt get the magic 400 miles for a full tank, the best i got was 350(but if i pushed my luck maybe on reserve could have acheived it)

just got serviced so will see if i fair better on the return journey

by the way, how many miles approx will u get on the reserve when obc says 0 miles left, 40-50????

Tbh mate, I have never actually tried to find out what I can get with the reserve, I usually fill back up before it drops to zero, so, wouldnt know how much further it would go with the reserve being used, I am just glad I can get it to be economical on this journey as it would be a right pig if it wasnt...

I mean, I did 430 miles, and still going, on 1 tank, with what appears to be plenty left to go, even my missus had to admit the car was bloody good on the fuel for the long journeys, she was expecting it to be expensive as hell (and tbh so was I but I wanted a VRS so badly), I just had to drive literally at the speed limit, weather and traffic permitting as best as I could to do it....

Ofc, had i booted it all the way there, I would probably if not definately ran out of fuel not long after picking up my son.....

im impressed by the good economy i get with my vrs when driven normally on a long run,i got 38 mpg when returning from leeds to york last night, the focus tdci i had as a loan car did 43mpg on same run! would rather have a 1.8T anyday over a focus with a van engine!,my old nissan primera GT was good on fuel too for a "sports saloon" i have seen a indicated 41mpg on mine, however ive also seen a indicated 18mpg!

Ofc, apart from when driving somewhat 'spirited' I would say, nice long journey, taking it easy, possible one of the best cars I have driven for economy...

Even more so seen as its using Tesco 99 and has a Turbo.....

That's awesome!

Did a test on mine the other day, filled the tank at 99.9 per litre. Cost me £44.50 to fill the tank and got 272.6 miles before the light came on. That's normal roads and a small amount of motorway driving with a little bit of fun thrown in, mods to the car are in my sig.

the original car in this post was a 4x4 and will not do as much to the gallon

I've now got a mk1 4x4 and at the moment i'm getting around 200 miles to a tank full. On a run (motorway cruise) i'd like to think I can get that up to 250 miles at least. Having said that it is extensively modified and is still new to me so i'm still having fun with it which of course doesnt do any good for mpg figures.

In my vrs I was getting 350ish soetimes a little higher that included mostly motorway driving but also driving in town (inc central London).

Double post for some reason.

Double post for some reason.

It's the excitement of owning such a fast but subtle car

I'm happy with my Octavia, I do a 30 miles each way to work and with my first tank of V Power I've averaged 39mpg. Thats with sensible driving and the odd burst of hard acceleration, climate control set to econ.

In my last car, a 2000 1.8 Zetec hatchback the best I ever got was about 36mpg and that was driving like absolute miss daisy.

in a 1.8t 4x4, last weekend i filled up the tank and managed to get "only" 420 miles out of it:thumbdwn:

most of the time was spent on the motorway at a steady 80ish, is this normal due to the 4x4?? i was expecting the mpg to suffer but not this bad.

any thoughts why its low, its been on vag-com and is showing no codes.

karl

that is good going:eek:,, i only get 320... or if i drive down the motorway like a granny 350-360 if that

Well today i drove like a complete grandad to work, albeit through town, kept it off boost, and never above 2500rpm.

And i averaged 31mpg.

Not too bad for a fair bit of stop/start driving.

Done 260miles so far, and it's bang on 1/2 tank.

Apart for a CAI, my VRS is completely standard, very soon will be looking at what I can do with my car, and obviously watch the MPG tumble.....

Still, 44.3MPG is a bargain....

Well last night I looked at the petrol gauge and I had used over a qtr of a tank. I reset the mileometer when I filled up and had a steady 70mph run on the motorway to the meet in Snipe (or where ever it was) and a couple of runs down the dual carriageway;)

Looked at the miles and it was 32:eek:

On that basis with mixed driving i'm getting less than 150 miles to a tank:rofl:

A round trip to London tomorrow inc motorway and central london. Be around 400 miles so will see how many times I have to fill up. At around £55 a fill i'm going to be spending around £175 :eek::mad:

Which equates to 32.5mpg on mine... sorry your car, because the computer is out.;)
