Just take a quick look Good work that man

Like the way it fits neatly into the floorwell with the foam, i presume its fastened down somewhere

Am gonna be getting the bits for my install soon too, and think i'll be doing the same with the M10000 (1Ghz) system, but may well go for 1gig of system ram too(thats if the board takes it???) - not checked.

On a side note, ive heard that MediaCar may be worth taking a look at, and from what i saw from your screen shots the GUI seems a little easier on the eyes with mediacar

I shall let you know when i get my stuff.

Do you leave the tft panel in the car then btw? and if so had any trouble?

cheers,

Lee

Yeah, it'll take a Gig but off the top of my head you get one memory slot...

Personally I don't think you'll need that much! :)

Maybe not right now, but who knows in the future

What applications would you be planning on running that would need that much memory, yet would still be sufficiently processed by a 1GHz processor and be something you'd need in a car? :D

Mobile 3D animator, eh? ;)

512 works well playing dvd, scarily so, I wonder if I should just move out to the car in stead of a nice sofa....

Sat nav is okay, playing music at the same time etc....a gig would be nice and if you can run to it, go for it.

It's not held in place, well it is, it's a tight fit, the corners are a tight push fit the foam down the sides are angled to let air in. It's held in place simply by the boot floor pressing on the foam.

re video, one other application was for a bullet cam to record on a loop every 30mins or so loops facing forward/backward...in case anybody runs into etc...not got round to working that one out, but ram might be usefull then :D

Have most of the softwares on a virtual pc here, just not got around to copying over to the car one.

ya got wi-fi networking mate at all, just wondered if you have, if you've had any probs with it ?

128 works well for playing DVDs! Think the MPEG-4 accelerator is the big factor... :)

Don't trust the air, never had much fun with wireless, either not compatable (cisco  )...easier to run a cat5 out the backdoor :D

That said a usb wirelss could make for an entertaining drive down the m6, wonder how many laptops are left on :D

Very nice colin lots of food for thought there !

re GPS I am using is this one: http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Royaltek-GPS-Receiver.aspx

Very small, magnetic base could be externally fitted, but parcel shelf does the job.

Re Sat Software, none that I have seen working has the same ease of use a PDA solution has yet.

I'm using Infomap Navigator, it's not great, but cheapish. The GUI is not suited to touchscreen work.

Destinator is supposed to have a plugin to the various bits of software, mediacar/engine etc, AlthoughI have not looked at it in the last 6 months.

Somthing I would like to see before buying is this:

http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/3423

Speech interactive is IMHO a killer app, say speed it will tell you :D Okay no real use, but there are some niffty features, I warned you it gets potentially expensive ;) If your after it just for sat nav, I suspect a tom tom maybe better.

wow! I wouldn't leave the screen on view when ur not in the car

I don't...although it's actually out of sight/blends to the dash well...but I don't leave it on if I'm going out of sight of the car...taht said if they get it off without loosing skin, I want to watch them doing it :D

Hi again.....(you'll be wishing you never mentioned you had a car pc soon-with all my questions LOL)

Anyway, how would you go about wiring in more tft screens, say so that you can have a split system ie Gps sat nav- on my screen with voice(maybe a tft with built in speakers), and say a dvd/ tv playing on a tft in the back for the little wonders in our life  I would have said that if they are both touchscreens, then *multi screen support under the OS will work, but what about seperating the sound outputs? Maybe use Headphones?

Cheers,

lee

*watching the bank balance tumble as we speak

do u shut down the pc/hibernate it before you leave the car?

Quite simply, I don't know.

If it can bbe done on a desk, no reason it can't be done in the car. Can have multiple pointing devices, which is all the touch screen is emulating. But as it's emulating it, that might complicate it.

www.mp3car.com might have the answer. I imagine a dual output video and essentially have twin desktop support.

I'm selfish so have not factored anybody else in...although I have thought about the xbox on the now spare invertor feeding into the composite feed on the panel for the long trips to scotland...

do you know how fast you were going...about 280Km's in my phat wagon.

I'll get me coat.

Depending on the case you went for, you could get a double PCI riser card to fit. So you could stick in another sound card, and find the rare beast that is a PCI graphics card and use those...

Boyced,

I have a small SPST switch, can be seen in one of the pics (red in cubby hole) I use this to pwoer on and off. It sends a 12v feed signal to the ITPS and powers the monitor, the ITPS then switches the motherboard on (replaces the cases power on switch) When leaving I flick it off and this tells the itps to send a poweroff, 40 or so seconds later it kills the power.

The ITPS is a small circuit with regulator/heatsink and timer chip. It has +12v 0v and a 12v switching circuit. IIRC it's about 25 pounds. If doing tomorrow I might consider the OPUS as these were not easily available in the UK last year.

Certainly the area I have used is deep enough to take a larger (deeper) case.

That said the wheel well locations are idea and it's not a huge package either way.

I can see some people gettin a bit fed up of this thread

:D:D:D:D

now for the questions

Any idea of approximate cost of building (mobo case screen etc etc)

where did you source the case etc for it

so many questions....so little time

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

where did you source the case etc for it

RAPID are distributors for Mini-ITX stuff, so it's always worth asking them for a quote... :)

See the Rapid forum for sourcing it, either as components or pre built, costs vary depending on what you have spare, eg I had ram and HD.

I'd budget 200-300 for pc, maybe more for itps/opus options, Screen is 150-200, cables 20-30 (monitor +usb hub/extension) , power lines etc.

Bracket was 13.95 I think, alot for what it is, but not alot for the solution it brought me.

Thats about it. GPS & software adds 100-300 depending on what you take.

There is another thread, should merge the posts on carpc's.
