New car questions about Volvo V70.....

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm just looking at a few new cars as my folks are on about getting a car via the motability scheme and i'll be one of the two named drivers for it. The leader at the minute seems to be the Volvo V70 estate 2.0d SE.

Couple of things.......

Has anyone driven the 2 litre diesel??? And if so what's it drive like???

And any general comments about the V70.... Preferably the SE model but also just the V70 in general.

Cheers

Dave.

You had me worried there fella

Thought you were chopping in the Fabia for a vulva

I mean, I know your knocking on a bit now, but not Volvo age yet surely? :D

Cheers

Father in law has a XC70 D5 ( 07 plate ) with the geartronic/triptonic grear box, It's a dream to drive, really smooth........Don't know if it's a 2lt though, it may be a 2.4

My wife has a 56 Volvo V50 Sport with a 2L Diesel engine. Not sure if any changes have been made since this model, but I've driven it quite a bit and have to say I'm not a big fan. Feels very sluggish and turbo "lag" is an understatement. Might just be because I can only compare it to my Fabia vRS with regards diesel engines, but personally I would never have chosen it after having driven the Fabia. Best bet is to definitely take one for a test drive before you make any decisions (obviously), and I don't really want to put you off, as it has been a great car so far, but I'm just not a big fan of the 2L diesel it has. Also not a big fan of the seating position, but again it's all down to personal preference.

I too drove that engine in a V50 estate - when I was choosing the Octy. It was a nice comfortable car, but a bit too 'executive' for me - it was too comfortable, I prefer a bit more feedback from the car.

lol Thought that would shock ya Damo. :D

Thanks for the input guys... I thought it might be a little slugish but the spec level on it just blows away the other couple of possibilities.... new Golf 1.4TSI SE & Honda Civic 2.2CDTi SE.

The golf and civic are both around the £800 region as the up front payment where as the V7 is £995 but if you tried to spec either of the others up to the same level there'd be around £2000 to add to their prices.

Gonna get some brochures for my folks to look through then arrange a test drive of all three cars.

Cheers

New spec V70 2.0 litre diesel is a perfectly adequate car , the engine is the same 2.0 litre diesel as in the V50, New Mondeo, Focus, Peugeots etc so it is generally reliable , not a lot goes wrong with the car as a whole

question though , will they do enough miles to warrant the diesel ?

Thanks for all the input guys.....

Well my dad has left it till he's 68 before buying his first car and he went for the V70 2.0d SE in the end. The spec level just blew everything else at the same £1000 price point away. Some of the things i can remember are auto wipers & lights, DRL's, keyless push button ignition, full electrics, electric seats with 3x memories for drivers seat, MP3 HU with 8 speaker system, climate control, cruise control, electric folding mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror with built in compass!!!, Volvo's version of EPS, and more airbags than you can shake a stick at.

We've been down to the local Volvo dealer today and had a good look round one and to make sure he can get in and out ok. Loads of room in the boot for his mobility scooter (which only takes about half the boot space) leaving plenty of room for luggage and our dog if required.

It's been ordered today and should be ready for collection mid September so will be a new 59 plate car. He's gone for ruby red metallic with black interior. He's really excited about it and he won't even be driving it!!!!! :D

Cheers

Dave.

I must admit it wouldn't have been my choice..... The metallic grey / metallic black / two tone silver were my personal faves. ;)

Cheers

Dave.
