Coolant/ Temp alarm

Featured Replies

As I have mentioned here before I have had an intermittent coolant leak for some time. The car has been looked at by four different mechanics and apart from replacing the pump none have found the cause of the leak. Recently one mechanic told me to add something to seal the leak. I went in to the nearest motor factor and got a small bottle of additive, shook the hell out of it and poured it in. My coolant level was slightly above max. The alarm was quiet for two weeks and then on Monday morning it came on again. It has come on each morning since, though only some evenings when I'm heading home. The coolant level is fine and the radiator fan is also working.

What else should I be looking at?

Coolant tank level sensor needs a scrape with a screwdriver.

Or replace the whole bottle (comes complete with sensor) for about £15

I have a spare coolant bottle lying around if it helps you out? Drop me a PM but I'd be happy to give you it for free if you cover the postage.

Mine goes off now and again, but i think the bottle seals are splitting...

I keep seeing this reply, but no way can I see any sensor probes

My VRS has a spherical header tank with a one inch cylinder type inlet when the cap is off

I have the temp alarm daily, advice to scrape the sensor probes, or bridge the sensor out

Just where are these probes or is this not on the VRS

I'll try cleaning the sensors. I had the bottle replaced last year along with the coolant pump.

Cleaning the sensors hasn't helped. Time for a new bottle. Sadly I have another fun symptom, twice recently the oil indicator has come on. Given that I had an oil change in July and the level is fine I'm a little worried.

Re the oil indicator, try an oil pressure switch. Easy to replace yourself, costs about £10. Did the trick for my Fabia

Having read a number of posts here and talked to my dealer thats what I'm going to do. If I'm correct the oil pressure switch is just to the right of the oil filter. I can't even get the connector cap off let alone remove the switch. Any pointers?

They're not visible on either of our Fabias TBH, however the replacement offered to me by the local SEAT dealer didn't have any of the gubbins inside it, and the probe was clearly visible. Hence, both sensors are bridged and the level is check on a regular basis. One day, I'll get two new tanks...

take a look at "coolant migration" on Fred's maybe another bad batch of spheres
