Climate control - what is the appeal?

Featured Replies

My Fabia vRS is the first car I have ever owned that has air conditioning. It is great in the hot weather and demists the car in cold weather too. It has a rotary temperature knob to keep the car at a comfy temperature. Now it seems that it is not enough for some people. My sis has just got a new Vauxhall with 'climate control' - "much better than the Fabia" she says. I asked "how better"? "Well" she said "you can have cold air blowing on your face and hot air blowing on your feet". It was the obsurdity of what she told me that caused me to laugh out loud and after she went I was left wondering in what situation such a combination would ever have a use - let alone earning it's undoubtedly higher cost over a normal air con / heater system.

I (or my sis) may have it wrong but it sounded a total waste of money. Anyone here ever tried it?

basically, with climate control you set your desired cabin temperature and the system maintains it for you, regardless of the outside temperature. it is better than boggo air-con

As andypandypoos says (<- that goes into the list of things I never thought id type!), It adjusts fan speed and temp to maintain a set temp inside, so it saves you having to turn up and down your a/c when it gets too hot, then too cold etc..

I agree with the guys. It just keeps the temperature the same whether it is hot or cold outside, and therefore you do not have to muck around turning the temperature controls up and down.

Even without the air con switched on it still does a good job most of the time in the UK, so for around 9 months of the year mine runs like that. Of course, every so often you have to put the aircon on to ensure it does not have problems.

It's on my "must have" list for any new car.

I had climate on my previous Ibiza Sport PD130 but it never seemed to maintain the temperature I was asking for and i was always too hot or too cold so was constantly turning it up or down - exactly as i do with the manual air-con in the Fabia

(but it did turn out to have a leaking air-con compressor so that might explain it)

However should you have a car in which it works properly it is better as it does it all for you

I had to constantly adjust the aircon in my Fabia, whereas I set the temperature in my Octavia and it was fine :)

4thed. Stratified heating is another item entirely from CC, and could be done without aircon.

As described.........

Air conditioning simply supplies air at a selected temperature and speed and takes no account of the starting or eventual temperature whereas Climate control, when on auto, adjusts its own settings to maintain the cabin at a selected temperature.

Doesn't the Fabia have temperature sensors in the cabin and trys to alter the heat to try and keep the overall temperature at the set value anyway?

Cos my one got caked in dust and was either hot or cold, then when I cleaned it the range of temperatures was a lot greater.

Another  for Climate Control.

It's one of those things that you didn't know you wanted until you've had it. I do think though that it's more of a luxury than a necessity, unlike aircon, which I think it could possibly be argued is a safety feature.

When I got my Octavia about 4 yrs ago, I fiddled with the temp setting for the first few days, decided on 21C & I haven't touched it since. As well as keeping a constant temp inside the car I believe the system also has a sensor that will cool the car more in direct sunlight in order to give the sensation of a constant temp.

Works brilliantly as far as I'm concerned and I occasionally find myself driving along in my wifes 206 thinking "Phew, it's hot/cold in here" until I remember I have to adjust the heating myself!

Nothing wrong that - it keeps you warm and has a bit of fresh air on your face to keep you alert. I used to have that in my Fiat Panda - the heater on to heat

your body and there was a small air vent under the windscreen to let a breeze in. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Also climate control will maintain a constant temperature in the cabin , unlike manual aircon systems which you spend ages tweaking to get it feeling right.

The Passat we've borrowed has climate control, so did my Dads former Honda

The colder air comes from the top and warmer air from the bottom. (Heat rises and Cold sinks)

On a long trip 5 passengers, temp set to 21C it never missed a beat.

Climate control is something I like but I wouldn't pay extra for, the manual A/C is adequate.

My mothers car is a 1997Pug 306 GLX and that has Climate control all those years ago.

Like other posters have said, until you've had, you perhaps wouldn't spec it. I would now, every time. along with Xenons and parking sensors. I used to think that they were for wimps, but with cars getting larger and spaces not increasing in size in tandem, parking is now more fun - said with tongue firmly in cheek !

18c. auto. done.

:iagree: - the only times I even touch the Climatronic panel as a rule are when I need to select "demist" mode on/off.

That's the thing about climate. You want it, you pay extra for it, and if you get it and it works well you never touch it.

Thanks for the answers - I knew that there must be more to it than met the eye.

Just like the Transformers :)

18c. auto. done.

Thats a bit parky for me.

Do you have asbestos feet or summat.:rofl::rofl:

its to counter the body heat i expel :)

21C here and happy.

18c and happy for me as well.

I wasn't too fussed about have climate control over aircon, but now having had the climate control in the Elegance I would recommend it.

As others have said, you just set the temperture, press auto and you don't have to touch the controls again.

its the future, ive tasted it.
