Porsche brakes fitted - pics

Featured Replies

I got around yesterday to fitting my Porsche brake kit.

Four pot brembo Porsche 996 rear calipers (painted green) with some 325mm discs.

I've not dome many miles on them yet but will see how they bed in before giving them any abuse. Should get plenty of miles under them this weekend :)

Will get some more pics up next week when the standard wheels go back on

They look stunning mate.....to quote a certain journalist "bet you couldn't stop faster if you ran into a tree"

Ooo, nice!

They look nice mate but I'm sorry to tell you i think you've fitted them the wrong way round. The bleed nipples should be at the top of the caliper.

Bugger, yes your right, only just noticed that, on the phone to the garage now :o:mad:

That looks very nice mate. The only thing is as well as being upside down IMO Brembo callipers should always be painted Red, especially as you've got red coloured pads. Hay at least they did not put your discs on the wrong way round!

Very nice.

Don't knock it - some grooved discs DO have the grooves running 'inwards':

:P

How did they bleed them? They must be full of air so will feel much more positive when they are the correct way around.

A good modification to do though. My 6 pots made it feel like a different car.

Could you also post a shot of your car at a distance as your wheels look very interesting

I'm liking it - Good job fella

Glad you got the brakes sorted.

Yep very nice.

did you take them off as soon as you got home?! :P

there looking smart Si!

Looking great Si, love the colour too......

Steve:thumbup:

Yeah they look cool. DaveB strikes again Id guess. Im getting my lambo kit next week and was wondering what colour to paint. I now think ill have the red. The green is nice but brembo have to be red i think.

Have fun when they are bedded in

How did they bleed them?

Perhaps they turned the car upside down

I'm more interested in the jack with the invisible cushion on the top!!

Also make sure they are fitted with the smaller piston at the top - the pistons are different sizes top and bottom to minimise pad taper wear. chances are if they came off the rear of the porsche and no-one has swapped the link pipe and bleed nipples round, they should be correct.

Let us know how you find them in terms of pedal pressure required and front/back balance. The rear calipers have appreciably smaller pistons than fronts, and I'm curious to know how well they work on this kind of conversion.

Where did you get mounting brackets for the calipers? Did you get them made, or did they come as a "kit"?

They look mint mate, what's the approx cost of doing this conversion??? I think they look good in green.

I think you can get a kit to convert the rear to a bigger disc too...

On a side note, do you have any details or tips on your boot build? I saw it at GTI International. Very impressed I must say!!!

Looks wicked mate, like that a lot

It's been a while so heres a quick update on these...the brakes have bed in nicely now. I'm not too keen on the Red stuff pads which may get changed shortly, but when their nice and warm they stop the car very well!!

Some additional pics of them behind the standard spiders too:

Yeah the smaller piston is at the top and the link pipes/bleed nipples were swapped round.

The brake pedal is much firmer than before, initially the pedal seems to travel a little further than with the standard 312mm setup, but then pressure builds very quickly and the car really pulls up well.

Brackets came via VAG Brem Tec, though I bought everything as a kit from someone on the Golf mk4 forum.

Do you still need spacers for wheel clearance as you do with Cupra R Brembo's. Still undecided on what brakes to put on mine, but not ken on the idea of spacers.
