Tired arms, shiny car! (Pics)

Featured Replies

So after several hours over the last two days I've finally finished cleaning my Fab ready for the national meet on Sunday. However I am expecting rain :thumbdwn: so I thought I'd take some photos of my shiniest car clean ever and put them on here so everyone can see yet another shiny silver Fabia vRS!

Process was:

Wheels: Holts Wheel Slik, sealed with AG Alloy sealer

Washed: Turtle Wax (old bottle, using it up), 2BM, Halfords Sheepskin washmit

Rinsed and dried

Wax: Megs Gold Class x2

Then disappointed with finish:rolleyes:

Washed

Clayed: Megs clay bar and NXT Rapid Detailer

Wax: Gold Class x2

Tyres: AG Instant Tyre dressing

Glass: AG Fast Glass

Plastic reblacked with cockpit shine

Then hoovered and thoroughly valeted inside.....

My arms are pretty tired now! :o

looks good but silvers a bugger to get clean no matter how long you spend i think it still looks the same even if you just wash it lol

Yeah, I know what you mean....and one drive and it will be back to it's usual fine layer of dirt again!

And yet it was the most popular colour last year !

silver is the best colour for hiding the dirt

I second that ^^^^^^^^

Had a silver astra G, if you didn't wash it for 8-12 months (seriously) it would always look the same (clean-ish)

If you washed it then it would look better for about 10 mins

That's my personal theory on why there are so many rusty silver cars, they don't look dirty, so why wash off all that corrosive salt that's hiding on it?.....................

Maybe it's because you spend so long trying to make it as shiny as a black version, you rub through the paint down to metal!

Nice finish, a day well spent!

Need some tyre dressing on though, just to finish it off.

Aye...I don't know what im doing wrong, used AG tyre restorer but it never seems to last for me...

Any advise anyone?

Try the Megs Endurance tyre shine (not the trigger one) and apply it with a small bit of sponge! (Muc off do some really good tyre shine applicators)

You only need a pea sized blob of the stuff otherwise you put too much on and it spins off and goes all over your previously clean doors, wings, etc (Yes I am speaking from experience) :o

It's the best stuff I've found for the tyres...

I've got a silver Fabia too and know how hard it can be to feel satisfied when you've cleaned it. Looks good though... :)

Thanks for that Black-Cat, thats spot-on info.

I guess that means more cleaning materials....will have to make sure SWMBO nevers finds my stash of kit, or she may force me to clean and polish the bathroom:eek:

Not from the judges ;)

Not from the judges ;)

But are the judges biased towards certain colours? There could be a handicap system for those with the "cleaner" colours!

Having tried many different tyre gels... turtle wax... and other's sold by halfords... i have finally found a tyre and bumper gel that actually makes the tyres not only shine very reflective.. but lasts a long time.. before dulling.... ^ what he said on megs endurance tyre gel

any joy getting the brakes on?

can also recommend the megs step 2 polish under the gold class wax - its more of a glaze than a polish which is good, mind you I found the durability of the megs gold to be quite poor.

this is my parents silver polo they have just bought and I have just detailed in silver, full machine polish etc etc, comes up good I think!

Thanks for all the help folks, its always good to get additional tips!

Ryan, no, havent tried fitting the brakes as yet - my colleague has been busy, but they will be on soon! They have been given a nice clean up though.

Ta for the tips on the megs...i'm new to car cleaning, let alone any further detailing type activities! I seem to have a quantity of AG stuff that im working through, trying to find the best thing, then of course I follow link's like yours, end up on Detailing World, and have to reassess:rolleyes:

Hopefully see many of you tomorrow!

Good work on the Polo too!

Looking good phantomlurker... I did mine this weekend, took me 3 hours. I used that turtle stuff on mine, wash and wax.

It's knackering but the end result is always worth the effort in my opinion. It never fails to make me smile! :-)

Something that bugs me most is when people say they don't clean there car...?! Wtf is that all about? Lmao.. :-)

Thanks for that, its definately the best finish i've achieved yet - that didin't stop it from having to be given a good wipe down and touch-up when I got to Gaydon though:rotz: Yeah, I find it really rewarding - I don't understand people who don't clean them, but i guess everyone has their own priorities! I didn't take this much time or effort on previous cars, but then I didn't love them like I love this one

Agreed, I didn't love previous cars as much as this one either! ha-ha.

Heh, it's turning in to a Furby love-in, but it's ok, i'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell us in great patronising detail how and why we are deluded into thinking this!

Fuuurby love-in.... Oh yh! :-)

:-O

We won't let it happen! We will bust a cap in they *** if they say anything!!!!
