Possible New Car

Featured Replies

OK, Any suggestions on this welcome.

My Car (Vrs '06 on a 55 plate) is coming up to it's 60k inc service which will include the cam belt. And it's needs 4 new boots. There won't be much change from a grand for that lot (£500 for the service and £300-400 for the rubber).

Rather than do the right thing and get the work done I could trade it in, and spend the extra grand on a new car. I could even add another grand to the pot.

So the question is, what can I get for my car plus £2k. Requirements as follows:

Derv.

As quick as a standard vRS.

Ideally Golf sized but realistically it'll be Fabia sized.

No older than my current car.

No higher mileage than the current car.

Reliable badge an advantage.

As far as I can think I'd be better off asking for the moon on a stick. I'll be interested to see what (if anything) you come up with.

Thanks for reading.

A Golf  or a Susuki Swift Sport? What price bracket? Diesel or petrol?

Derv or Diesel for thoes that can be bothered with the extra 2 characters.

My car plus £2k.

Golf, leon maybe a cheaper Audi?

£2K isn't enough to make a big enough difference. If you traded your car in against something identical at a dealers you'd be paying at least a grand for the priviledge. Just get it serviced and get some new tyres. Besides, what are the chances that whatever you bought had just had it's belt done and four new tyres?

^ I agree. You will be better off with what you know :)

Stick with what you have got!!!!! as you might buy a Lemon, better the Devil you konw than the one you dont!!!

You're all right. Although i hate to admit it. Another pipe dream I'm afraid.

Sensible choice, spend the grand on the service and tyres, job done.

It's almost never cheaper to buy another car. The reason vRS Fabia shold their value so well is because there is almost nothing else out there that matches the performance and practicality of a big TDi motor in a small car with VAG build quality and reliability.

I very much doubt I'll ever sell mine. I've never had anything mechanical that so puts a smile on my face.

Mk5 Golf TDi 4Motion is what I'd want.

And there cheapish, handle really well, and are safe.

Can you get the 4motion with 170 bhp, or is it only 140?

140bhp only, and the 140's don't remap as well as teh 130's, so you'd probably only see 165-170bhp in a heavier car. And I'd have to say that he's not going to be looking at the better cars for the sort of money he's talking about.

assuming £5.5k plus your 2 grand, you could get a PD160 Ibiza Cupra of a very similar age and with very similar miles - mine on a 55 plate (registered December 2005) with a shade under 45,000 miles was something like £7400. slightly earlier and slightly higher miles they're under £7K.

seeing as they're essentially the same car it might not be the change you're after, but when I was buying I looked on it as the extra outlay was (to me) worth stuff like the bigger turbo, decent FMIC, 312mm brakes (with AP calipers), slightly sportier drive & looks (IMHO), 17 inch wheels and the easier to keep clean seats.

:)

OK, research done, decision made.

I'll get the work done as anything else would be a false economy. I like the look on the BMW 123d so I'll just have to save the pennies until I can get there!

You do realise that a squad of VAG funded ninjas just got their kill orders don't you? Quick - say you were kidding and you're going to buy a Fox!

I know it's wrong but it's 200 bhp with less CO2 than the fabia!

coupe? I like the 1 series coupe :)

Having similar thoughts to you nearly left me with a straight swap of a 156 SportWagon with knackered cams for my old Renault... For once, SWMBO's reaction was actually a GOOD thing!!!

The 123d is a nice car but something like £24k+ new.

The 123d coupe in particular is good to look at, nice badge, very quick :) Parked next to one last week in candy white (or whatever the BMW equivalent is, I am sure they have a posh word for white) and thought it looked very classy. 201bhp and 400nm torque :D I could do with that in my Fabia.
