Console Bushes - re-fitting bottom arms

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

i've done a bit of a search but nobody seems to have the same problem as i'm having.

I fitted my new Helix clutch and flywheel today and seeing as the car was half apart I fitted the Whiteline anti-rollbars and the Cupra console bushes.

The bushes fitted easy enough but no matter how hard I try I just can't get the lower arm to locate in them fully. I've tried while the console is on the car, i've taken it off the car, i've tried grease, WD40, i've tried ratchet strapping them home. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the finger of the lower arm all the way in, I get to about 20mm from where it needs to be and it just won't go any further.

Anyone got a special technique the way to let me in on!! :(

this is from memory and i`m tierd and drunk:rofl:

but i think you need some lube on the spigot to get it in

i cheated and removed the console arm and refited the wishbone before refiting

Small rachet strap and ratchet the thing in, they are a tight fit!

It does take some effort to get the wishbone spigot into the solid type bush. PTFE white grease is best, and very powerful ratchet strapping.

i used a press at work , piece of P155

So you used a press to push the bottom arm into the bush? Might try that along with white grease and a ratchet strap then!

Cheers guys!!

Oooh , I remember that job :( was a real big pain :(

Good luck!!

Sarah

I Snapped the small ratchet strap and fxxxxd the ratchet on the big one as the arm went in:eek:bush3.png

A while back I posted in the DIY wishbone bush replacement thread (in Tech Guides) that you really need to put plenty of lube on the wishbone spiggot before refitting the wishbone/TCA into the bush.

I learned this when fitting mine - I fitted the o/s first without any lube and it took me fecking ages! Even bust my ratchet strap in the process! Then for n/s I piled on the lube onto the spiggot and it went in a lot easier with a bit of force and up + down movement of the wishbone (this time without ratchet strap).

Plenty of lube mate, best way!;)

Cheers for this thread, im doing mine in the next few weeks, and was hoping for an easy time. Just my luck it will start raining half way through too

Stripped it all back off and pressed the arms into the bushes in the end after greasing them up.

Flew in then!! Car feels much tighter now.
