not your normal tyre thread, but..

Featured Replies

Im looking for 4 boots for my car, im not looking for racing tyres with the biggest price tag, in fact the opposite cheap ish tyres, good economy and long mileage. The originals on the back are getting to the end of their life at 26 or 28k and the front ones (falkens 452's) havent been impressive currently on 10k compared to the originals which were 15-16k.

I have thought about 452's again, but surely there are some boots that are good quality and economical?

When I had the 2.0 tdi I had Falken 452's on mine and they lasted a good 16k. The Dunlop sport maxx I have now on the vRS have lasted about 16.5k at the moment and still look good for a few more thousand yet.

I would take a look at Hankook or Kumho on Camskill's website. I currently have Falken ZIEX912 on at the moment and they seem to be lasting very well while offering super grip in both wet and dry conditions.

how much did they cost?

I'm looking for new boots too:

I'm thinking of the Hankook V12s. I want grip, longevity, and low road noise and these seem to be coming out top for the price.

Unless I decide I'm a bit richer and go for the Eagle F1 AS. But the difference is about £150 for all four. Hmmm, decisions, decisions…

The Kumho's are seem to be pretty good value too, and quiet, but don't seem to last very long by all accounts. Depends how you drive I suppose

Exactly, whilst many on here want tyres for booting hard in, mine need to be more longativity/economical as my drive to work only averages 35mph over 8/9 miles so there isnt a need to boot it or anything.

Has anyone had experience of eventtyres? just got a quote from them to come out to me with four 452's for £325 all in.

What were your original tyres?

I'll show you mine tomorrow. 29K fronts need doing as just hitting markers, rears look perfect and still loads left on them.

cheers gadgetman, current fronts are falkens 452's and the originals are still on the rear. 28k on the clock

cheers with fitting, balancing etc it comes to more than the event tyres people who look quite competitive.

no worries - what size are you on

He has 17", same as me.

they pricey are they not?

Used them twice and both times they were on time and quick, courteous and value for money. Wouldn't hesitate using them again.

all depends on how much you can get fitting and balancing for. If I were buying the tyres based on your 17" size it would work out cheaper for me than event tyres.

I'm enjoying the grip of the Vredesteins but they're not that cheap. If you want to go cheap without getting into rubbish, I like Kumhos. You can get some amazing prices on Kumho from backstreet places. Had three sets over two cars. Quiet and reasonbly long lasting.

its all in for £325 the thread you gave me above doesnt give me a local grage or tell me how much i will need to pay for balancing etc.

This is it normally on here people are looking for great grip and couldnt give a damm on the price or how long they last, like in my OP im looking more for economical than racing around.

I had to get 2 new rears as they were advisary on the MOT last week. The garage I always use offered me Firestone Firehawk TZ200 for £130 the pair all inclusive. Supposed to improve fuel consumption too.

I know Firestone is part of Bridgestone, but no idea if they are any good. I tend to buy tyres more on price than performance.

Firestone TZ200 are a brilliant tyre, my lease company used them for a while and that price is super (compared to Irish prices, 140euros each !!). I still think you won't beat Camskills price on Kumho Ectsa Ku31, last time I checked they where under £60stg each and the Hankook V12, 105's and 107's are all around £70stg each. It works out cheaper for me to have tyres shipped to Ireland from Camskill because their prices are so competitive.
