has anyone tried the 912 against the 452's?

£5 - £10 per tyre fitting and balancing, if my maths serve me correctly - quids in

has anyone tried the 912 against the 452's?

I have 912's on the front at the moment, the rim protection could be a bit better but I do like a tyre that grips and they haven't dissapointed me yet. I have my PD140 mapped so they are coping with a bit of grunt.

hmmmm, might have to pop up my local tyre man and see how competitive he can be with them and ask for his honest advice on the two as well (he will give honest advice and not the most profitable as ive used him for years).

what sort of mileage are people getting out of kumo's? are they quieter/noiser to originals?

Way quieter than Bridgestones. About the same as Michelins IMO. Can't say for sure what their longevity is like on the Octavia as I had an alignment problem when I had them on so I killed them after 15k miles or so. I had two sets on my Megane II though and got over 20k from the fronts despite a remap.

Not tried either but as I understand it the 912 sits below the 452 in Falken's pecking order; the 912 is an 'average' tyre whereas the 452 is a sport/performance tyre. Last time I looked the 452 was about £5 per tyre more expensive. Get what you pay for?

Vredestein Ultrac Sesantas are mid price (not budget) at around £90 - £95 for 225/45 17s but on my hard driven vRS have lasted c.14-15,000 miles and I'd suggest will grip and handle better that Falkens. Again; get what you pay for?

Not something I have any experience personally with - however I quizzed my workmates because I need two new boots on me furby. All reports were positive, no adverse noise, grippy and plenty long-lasting for the price.

Hope this help,

PL

i might look at the kumos as 15k is about what i got out of the 452's and if they quieter than the originals that be great as i feel 452's are nosier.

I only saw you Paul as you left (was in front with Shark_90 doing some VAGcom trickery!

Even he couldnt believe they were originals @29.5K. What mileage have you done now, as your original Bridgestones looked pretty shot, as did the falkens.

The 912 outscored the 452 and matched the Sessenta on Tyretest.com, it has a slightly lower speed rating then either the 452 or the Sessanta but I don't think my Octy will ever see 168mph let alone 186 !!! If the retail price of a tyre was the out and out judge of its quality we would all be booting up with Michelin..........no ?? Anyway its only an opinion. I have used Vredestein in the past, I just can't live with the price difference at the moment.

the falkens have done about 12-14k and the back ones are the original bridgestones and they have done 28-29k

Event Tyres are brilliant, wouldn't use anyone else. My Accord Type-S came with Kumho KU-31's on. Didn't like them, tramlined badly, yes they were pretty quiet, but did nothing for the handling. Replaced them with Toyo Proxes T-1R's they are much better, a little noisier, but not much, and a whole load more grip. I was torn between the Toyo's and the Falkens. Event suggested the Proxes would suit my car better.

Once you have decided upon te tyres that you want, I've always found these guys to be very competitively priced. There is usually 2 or 3 tyre places in every city.

Buy cheap tyres online from ValueTyres.co.uk

hope it helps!

ive heard that event tyres dont carry everything they need to do the tyres and if you value your alloys... now im confused, might just go to my local tyre man and just see what he can offer me and have done with it as i know he does a proper job etc. Also not sure on the kumho now after the review above so might go for the 912's

I did some net searching on the Firestone TZ200 and found a few decent reviews so it looks like my tyre fitter made a good recommendation. They are way quieter than the Dunlops they have replaced.

how much?

Don't loose sight of the fact that any new tyre will be quieter than an old (worn) tyre, like for like, as the 8mm or so tread depth of the new tyre will provide a noise suppressing layer of rubber.

Have you compared the Firestone TZ200 vs. your Dunlops with equal tread depth?

I've had event tyres out twice now, because I value my alloys. They gave me a choice of stick on or clip balancing, they've got everything they need in the van. Their service couldn't be better. I've never found a drive in tyre place I like.

OK; lets do some Maths.

As above; Falken 912s @ £250 inc VAT & delivery plus £10 per tyre (cheap) for fitting and balancing is £290 or £72.50 each. Say our OP gets 12,000 miles from them, 2000 more than the 452 which are a sportier tyre and will wear more (on the front), this gives a 'value' rating of £6.04 per 1000 miles.

Take the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas @ £95 fitted, that on my vRS have given 15,000, this gives 'value' rating of £6.33 per 1000 miles.

There is not such a great difference between the two and I'd suggest, again, that the Ultrac Sessanta is a superior tyre for grip etc.

Food for thought.

You know what mileage you can expect from a set of Sessentas whereas you can only assume the expected mileage from the Falkens(912).....and you know what they say about assumptions. Seriously though, I have 15000kms on mine and I'd say there is another 10k left. I think I'll push my luck with the Boss and try a set of Sessantas next, when I used Ultrac's a few years back I thought they where a great tyre. I wonder what the new Ultrac Centa will be like ??

how much?

I paid £130 a pair fitted at a local independant tyre fitter in Plymouth

But like I said earlier, i've only just had them fitted so can give no opinion on longevity or grip.

Tyres:

Cheap

Long Lasting

Good Grip

Choose 2 of the above as that's all you will get.
