New Tailpipe / Backbox For Vrs

Featured Replies

Anybody recommend a good aftermarket Oval tailpipe / backbox to replace the standard set-up. Nothing too noisy but I can't hear the roar with the standard arrangment ;). Plus I think the std hexagonal tailpipe looks a bit cack.

Any pics idea of cost aswell would be appreciated.

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

I had a rear box had made by a company called Hayward&Scott, there is a picture of said rear box in this forum. Others have had exshausts fitted by Powerflow, Miltek and Jetex. Mine sounds very nice not too loud although it set off a car alarm when I drove by!!

Try also Janspeed in Salisbury, They have an extensive range & currently make all the Scoobysport systems

I had a Powerflow exhaust made up last week by TopGear in St. Albans. They were very good

They ask you what you are looking for, what noise you are after and what tailpipe design you want. My tailpipe is 2 3" round straight cut thin edges - i think it looks great!

Mine is quite loud - but then that's what i wanted. It too can set off car alarms from 20 paces! (if i try ;) ). There is a wonderful burble+popping when you come off the accelerator.

I did try to do a soundbite with my digital camera but unfortunately it is not a camcorder so the sound quality was crap :(

Nice one, Looks good, now all you need to do is cut the rear panel the other side & fit another set of dummy pipes, that should make people behind think

Stuart

Please Please Please don't put on dummy pipes. Unless they really work it just looks juvenile

Dave I think you should have had the pipes cut off at an angle a la BMW since they are thin pipes. JMHO. :)

Edited to say - still a million times better than the standard hexagonal thing though :D

BTW Dave the pipes look great

Thanks all

After looking under the car - the engineers did say 'If you know anyone who wants dual exit (ie left and rhs) then then tell em its not possible with the sunken spare tyre well and other stuff under there'.

I tried many different tailpipe designs in the workshop:

Jap style / oval / oval upswept / twin square / twin round dtm style etc. Did look at twin slash cuts but the rear bumper is too high on the vRS it looked weird.

Normal ovals look OK just not my cup of tea - they were pushing the upswept design (latest fashion apparently) - but i though it looked puke.gif

Dave, those pipes rawk! How much does this set one back if one were to acquire it for ones vRS? ;)

Dave,

The tailpipes look great. Nice to see them on a black car aswell. I think there's a powerflow dealer near me. what that lot set you back if you don't mind.

You can get a side exit one for the Octavia, if you want to keep the rear of the car looking standard :D

The Powerflow 'menu' goes something like this:

Back box: 120

Cat-back->back box pipe work: 250

Cat rep pipe (permanent): 60

Car rep pipe (swappable): 120

I had a custom backbox (they actually made it in front of me!) and the cat back pipe work which replaced the middle small silencer box. The rear silencer is not much bigger than a piece of A4 :vamperic:

Love the idea of a custom exhaust - because of the custom soundscape it provides! :D

Might take my car up North (in Holland, that is) to a place called Hoogezand, the home of EPS (found at www.uitlaten.com, Quinten will see the fun of that URL), where make-while-you-wait exhausts are the name of the game.

BTW, Dave, I think your sig pic needs replacing now! ;)

Hmmm... Anyone who decides to take over my desktop whilst I'm trying to read their website gets no money out of me ;). That and the fact that it is a bit far to drive to get it done :D

Now, not being an expert in motoring parts, if you just wanted a different look to the car, could you just settle on a new backbox? Or aren't these a standard fit?

Q.

Dave,

lookin' good!

Do you know whether there is any performance gain? I imagine without the cat there would be a laod more torque.

I was thinking of getting the Milltek sports cat and downpipe. I assume I could have a custom back box put onto that?

I've often thought about having twin exhaust but the rear towing eye is in the way.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Definately feels better / free-er - although I am sure some of that is psycological as the noise adds so much to the driving experience :) You should have seen the size of the OEM backbox they took off - it was massive!

I didn't get the decat pipe in the end - i was hoping that 'eliseport' on here would give me some feedback but he seems to have fallen off the edge of the planet! I too will go down the Milltek sports cat route i think before the Jabbe remap.

Yes you can have a custom pipe attached to the Milltek pipe.

I dont think twin exits are possible with the Skod's under car configuration -only by having dummy pipes (which are a bit of a no-no IMHO) :)

Hmmm need to update my sig now with some new pics.......

Would anyone like an exhaust like the one attached in this picture? Its a real shame it's attached to a banger car. :(
