Featured Replies

This cheapo kit of ebay doesnt work - and the seller is giving me the runaround! So going to claim my money back from paypal!

Anyone else got a set of aftermarket HID's? Where did you get them from??

I have a set of 5000k ones from hids4u, so far done 17k miles with them and touch wood all going well (note: they are on whenever i drive day or night). Highly recommended.

I managed to use some dicount codes for mine too, feel free to pm pm if you want to try them to see if they still work,

I wouldn't bother personally I've had two sets one supposed anti glare one both blinded other drivers even after alignment and they look pants in fabia headlights

I read on one of the other HID suppliers that the kits arent ment for Skoda's! Unless you spend £200 on one with a built in ECU!

Well I have the perfect reasonable solution for you!

Ive had my HID's 1 year now, passed the MOT no problem, and ive never once been flashed. (Ive also got people to drive infront and to drive towards me, and all have said no problem with glare).

I purchased my lights from www.car-mod-shop.co.uk and they are the 4300k H7R kit (very quick delivery and hes based in Devon).

Also I just happened to take a picture this evening of the lights, so here you are, compared to the halogen fog light you can see its just pure white.

Sorry its come out the wrong way up, i dont mind you saving it and rotating yourself!

Hope this helps, Si.

ive been thinking bout getting some a while now, seen a few seat leons with some bright blue ones, are they legal in them?

Well if you want to look like a d**k.....then blue is for you.

None are legal, but you makes your choice. I went for a colour that gave the best light output, and also prefer the standard fit colour (4300k) that HID's give - thus should not draw unwanted attention to myself!

surely these are legal?

Car Mod Shop

Nope

As covered before, no aftermarket conversions are legal unless you replace the entire unit (headlamp assembly) and conform to the requirement to have automatic self levelling and washers.

Aftermarket HID (Xenon) headlamps

You run the risk of failing MOT - if they are passed the tester didn't know he rules or didn't notice ...

I fitted a set of the HIDS4U ones, 5000K H7R Anti-Glares in to my standard headlights.

The first night I went out with them in the dark I must've passed about 5 different police cars on my travels, not one of them gave it a second look. Also nobody has flashed me either so I'm guessing they are ok.

Granted. But it mustn't be forgotten that 'ok' and legal are two entirely different matters.

got mine from a company on ebay, went and collected em in edgeware, was £50. Done 15k with them, no issues with being flashed or too bright, top banana. Can get the exact sell if someone needs it.

Aftermarket HIDs are NOT legal however if they are 4300K etc are E-marked used with headlamp washers you should get away with it. Most of my cars and my mate's cars have been fitted with HIDs and have never had any issues either come MOT or being stopped by the police.

Here is the Department Of Transports take on HIDs

I spoke to my insurance company about adding HID's to my previous car. There answer was simple, we wouldn't pay out if you had an accident, this was from a big name company. It would be interesting to see the view of say Adrian Flux on this matter as they are the mods specialist.

I would like a set though

Did they clarify that they wouldn't pay out for the cost of replacing the mod or pay out for the claim in total?

In there eyes if any NON legal (if they are not E marked) parts are fitted to a car and it is used on the road they would not pay out the claim. Not sure if they would actually follow through with it or if its just them trying to get out of a payment. I just wonder if mr insurance man would be looking for them after a crash. Maybe we could get the bloke from Adrian Flux to cast his opinion on claims.

I've PM'd Dan to ask him

So according to that info its illegal to sell illegal mods??

The products themselves are not illegal, it's just that fitting them to your car could make the car unroadworthy, which you then drive which is illegal.

Bit like numberplates with stupid fonts, except there is some advantage to fitting hids.

Yeh they are totally legal to use off road, it's when you get onto public highways the grey area starts

I had the "anti glare" bulbs.

Just because peopple arent flashing you doesnt mean they arent blinding

Agreed,

its quiet obvious when a car with aftermarket HID's drives towards you. The first thing you notice is the whiteness, and the then the glare and dazzle. I dont bother flashing cars just because they are dazzling bright and blinding, whats the point as they'll just carry on anyway.

The replay from dan was:-

Hi Ben,

As long as they are legal and we have been notified of them then it's fine

Dan.

I'm guessing he wont mind me posting this.
