private number plates

Featured Replies

I have ordered a new vRS and saw in another thread had a ****VRS private no plate. So checked out the DVLA website and seen that there is loads of present prefix VRS plates available at mostly £245.

So!

1. How many members have VRS plates on their vRS?

3. Is this been chav?

Not ever had these before, so wondered what people thought?

Why?

Personally I wouldn't get a plate linking it to the car.

My plate has my 4 initials and birthday numerals.

I transfer it when changing my car.

However, there are many who have vRS plates...

Cos I was thinking of buying some, just dont know whether its been a bit cheesy putting them on a vrs with vrs on them, I not slagging anyone off for having them!

They are ok with me....

If you find a plate you like - go for it

I do not like the current sequence of plates '51 '02 etc :thumbdwn:

I think they look naff unless you get a 'proper' private plate. i.e. a very old one without any prefix or suffix. I really think it cheapens a car when it has a standard plate that almost means something. Just my opinion.

I have mentioned it to swmbo and as long as she can spend the same amount of money on something, no problem:rotz: I saw ones with the new prefix's that virtually looked like our names, reminded me of ford capri's with the names at the top of the windscreen:rofl:

never had one myself cos i can;t justify the cost but have seen mixed reactions to them from others:

My mum managed to buy a car with a plate with her name is rather than buying the plate. It was summin like P 123 SUE - and she was chuffed but decided to sell the car and totally by fluke the woman who came to look at it was also called Sue and the car sold there and then pretty much beofre they'dlooked round the car!

On the other side of the coin a guy at work named Adrian Fry had AD 04 FRY as a present from his wife but when his circumstances changed he changed his car and he couldn't afford to stump up the £90 transfer fee so sold it with the car

Something like "The Skip" with WH05 VRS or DC14's - V666 VRS are effective and actually include the letters rather than having to bodge numbers to almost make it say summin :D

In the end I decided to get my initials so that it isn't car specific - not that I'm contemplating changing !

BTW - be careful with the NewReg website - they claim to have numbers at the lowest price anywhere - strangely they are still showing as having my number available (on an initial search at least) at a price over £600 more than I paid on the DVLA website.

I have just purchased T25 VRS as my names Tris i thought it was fitting. again £245 off DVLA.

One of my previous cars was a Peugeot 307 on an 03 plate, and i bought a plate for that with the reg DJ (my initials) 03 PUG. Hardly anyone knew it was private, and when that pile of **** became unreliable, i traded it in for a SEAT, meaning i had a plate that was no use to me, so i let it go with the car.

Now i have a plate that is not linked to a specific brand or model, and its more obvious as a private reg as it looks like an R reg plate, and has my 3 initials at the end.

Now i can take it to my next car should this one be sold or written off.

So getting K9BTX and K9CTX was ideal for us (Canine Border Terrier Kiss and Canine Cairn Terrier Kiss) -- although the brymar didn't see the significance at first;):P;)

Come on Mike - tell the truth.

It's all those doggy botox injections you've been having isn't it ?

my mate has a 54 reg polo GT (blt engine) His plate reads GT54 DUB. again £245 off DVLA and for that price you can afford to let it go with the car.

I've just checked their site and my plate is still available on there, even though it's been on the car a couple of months now.

Cheers, I thought there would have been another thread somewhere! I have only looked at the DVLA site at the mo and see no reason to look at others yet.

Having vRS in the plate is OK until you change the car for a vorsprung durch technik or whatever (perish the thought). Mine is specific to me and I don't think it's at all chavvy. What is, though, is the process for changing from car to car - takes ages and costs a fortune.

I've just checked & my number plate is there!!!

... the one that I've never had but want!!!!

Kay, you're rich... will you buy me it please? :D

It's only £18,995

If you didn't keep dropping your eggs you might be able to afford it yourself

Just checked 'new reg' for my plate.

Its on there for a bargain price of £143! Gutted i bought it for £245 now.

However, this soon goes up to £244 if you continue to the checkout screen.

So someone could buy the same plate from them for £1 less... hope someone gives it a go, i'd like to know what happens.

I'd sooner stump up the extra and let the DVLA do it all :)

Simbo, if I was that rich I'd get it for you!!

But I'm not :(

Give me another year or so :rolleyes:

I like p/plates

I have my initials DAA but I would definitely consider a car related one as well

Mind you, I tend to swap cars fairly often, and my plate has been on at least a dozen of my 45 cars

Some have been £80 transfers, most £105 retentions :o

Nearly divorced over this lol

Seen my ideal plate, just need to find the £86396.25 now

Mine was around the £300 mark from newreg in Preston. £86,000 seems rather excessive for a plate...?

If you buy a new plate from DVLA the 1st. transfer to your car is free. You can take the Letter from the DVLA to a local DVLA office and they will give you a new tax disc to replace the old one, same with the MOT. At this point you fix yer new no. to the car.The new V5 will be posted back to you in due course.

Transferring the plate to a subsequent car was £105, but it's gone up now. In this case go to the DVLA local office before you sell the car and they will give you a retention certificate new tax disc etc. which is valid for 1 year. Your original plate will be put back on your car. When you have the new car go start the process all over again.

It can be done by post but will take longer of course.

As others have said there is no point buying a car related plate unless you are keeping the car for a few years to make it worthwhile.

I agree...

I would have paid the £75000 but the £11250 VAT has put me off

and anyway, it was £86, 396.25.

AND you'd get a £60 ticket if you squashed it all together to spell your name:P
