Cam Belt Service

Featured Replies

Simple Question.

Is it worth having a new water pump fitted at this service (be it 60k or 80k)?

Ta.

Yes, as it's all stripped down anyway to change the belt. You also have the option to fit a metal impeller type water pump as well.

In my opinion...no, it's not, they are more than reliable, they had problems with the early ones and the 1.8 petrol I think, but they are safe as houses, I never got mine done and it't done 30k since the cam belt was done and there are no problems....

yes people will say well, it's for peace of mind, but I'm sorry, a new one could fail just as much as a new cam belt...

my water pump will probably be fine when the cam belt gets done next time too....

Too many people worrying too much.....

Just my 2p's worth.

Thanks to you both. I’m trying to get a consensus of opinion on this as to whether it’s a case of “replace it while it’s off” as it’ll probably save money/hassle in the long run or in fact fixing something that isn’t broke………

My advice would be to get the water pump changed. And whilst the water is drained there are merits in getting the water temperature sender and thermostat replaced too (probably another £20 - 25 in parts whilst no added antifreeze cost and virtually no labour cost).

Deffo get it changed. It's no extra charge for labour if they're doing the cambelt anyway, and for £25 you've got peace of mind that it's not going to split/crack/shatter and wreck your engine at worst, or cost you another £200 labour at best. :)

I agree.... just had my cambelt changed at 4 years old and 36k.

Advised to change tensioner on 2nd 4th cambelt changes and not every time.

Also, if water pump is fine..... leave it be..

I imagine their could be a number of perfectly serviceable water pumps going

cheap on e-bay......
