Help please abs/traction control lights wont switch off

Featured Replies

Hi Please can soeone help me with an issue i am having with my vRS 2004 Fabia, on Friday i was happilly driving to work (25 miles on A1 and M62) when i come off at my junction i put my foot on brake and received abs kick back this continued for the rest of my journey approx 2 miles. i then took it out at lunch time and it was fine i then drove it home detouring to my sisters (approx 47 miles ) and it did it just as i was pulling into my garden i left it and then went out in it saturday morning and i pressed the brake and it did nothing!! all this time no warning light was on, I then took it to a garage and on my why the abs light lit and traction control.

it was put on the machine and it said my driver abs sensor was faulty this has been replaced but the lights are still lit, it was repalced again and they are still lit they are now telling me its wheel bearing as the machine says its the same fault again! i am just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be if the bearing dont cure it thank you Sx

Had any new tyres or wheels recently?

Wheels and or tyres of mis matching sizes left to right or front to back can cause the ABS to go a little mental.

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor, could just have got water in it. A VAG com check or similar will tell you which one

Hi Sx

you say you have had it on the "machine" what machine? and did you clear the fault codes?

Radiotwo

If you replace an ABS sensor you will have to clear the fault code manually ,ABS faults do not self clear as I discovered when i changed a sensor .It is easy to do with VCDS

I don't think mine has an ABS warning light??

front or rear "drivers" ABS sensor ?

I have got a similar problem(similar symptoms) with mine , lights etc and same outcome with fault codes(NSF speed sensor). It is currently in the specialist at the minute and he reckons the the wheel bearing has moved as the brake caliper carrier is fouling the disk. Hopefully I will get it back this week. Hope this helps.

Hi Reflex funnily enough it had them balanced the day before i have had loads of problems with the front driver wheel, tyre fell of the rim, wheel bearing, balancing, brake inbalance and now this all since i bought it (oh and some bugger drove into it and broke the mirror casing!)

hey muttboy,

sounds feasible this could explain why i travel on motorways all the time never brake but have brake dust oll over the front wheels constantly i will change its discs thank you

Sazelle before you change the brake disk make sure that you have clearance from the caliper carrier to the disk and compare it against the other side, I changed the brake disks and pads(genuine skoda ones) and scored the disk on the passenger side , make sure that there is clearance , if there is not it is probally the bearing. My specialist thought that i had fitted the wrong disks however it was as though the whole hub had moved outwards.I did say to him I thought that it was the bearing however it is seemingly not a common way of bearing failure to show itself but is looking more likely. I will keep you posted.

the bearing and hub assembly is pressed into the knuckle , if the bearing moves out of the knuckle , the disc will hit the carrier and the ABS sensor will not pick up the magnetic ring on the bearing as it will have to much of an air gap

seen this on an 09 plate Volvo just last Monday, new knuckle and bearing/hub , car now ok

Deffo sounds like the wheel bearing is at fault. I would have thought the garage would have checked it when the sensor fault came back

My wee car eventually had to go to the local Dealers, and it was found to be that the front wheel bearing had not been fitted correctly! so I will get it back tommorrow , I am just waiting for all the excuses from the Garage that I bought it from so that they dont have to foot the bill.

thats very coincidental as the wheel bearing change did resolve it and the car drives 100% better no more shakes and better MPG (strangely) the coincidence is that they fitted the bearing in March! so the bearing was done under warranty but was still charged for the sensor! I think i should ask for my money back

Well got mine back today and £263 lighter since the skoda dealer put on the invoice bearing fitted incorrectly no warranty payout! Now I will have to fight it out with the garage I bought it from with the aid of trading standards.

flippin heck!!! I am a bit nervous as my bearing had gone in march the garage put a new one on and then this one was faulty what if they fitted first one incorrectly they may not have done this one either i am begining to think mine was same as yours as all same symptoms just different side but i did have a bearing fitted :-(
