Bolero removal - Help

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got my Columbus this morning and wanted to fit it, but I can't work out how to remove the Bolero unit I've got in there. It's not like the old stream unit where you had the 4 covers over the fixing screws. Do you need some sort of release key or something? It doesn't look too obvious and it's driving me nuts.

Any help greatly appreciated.

What do you see with the surround removed?.

Well, the front fascia of the bolero is much wider than the bulk of the unit behind. I doubt the front is supposed to come off in it's entirety. There are various slots in the buklhead mainly where the silver fascia panel clips in, and some weird looking thing at the top centre which could be some form of locating pin. Other than that, can't see anything obvious, unles you have to do something at the top and bottom of the unit.

The 4 securing screws will be in the same place on both units, can you take a quick picture, with the surround removed at an angle so I can see what the front and side profile looks like.

Will give it a try, might be a bit of time as I've never uploaded a photo to the forum. Thanks for this Mannyo.

Sussed it, thanks Mannyo, it was thinking that the screw location should be the same.

Now for the scary part, you need to pull off the front panel of the HU.

The best way seems to be a gentle pull on each side, but only enough to unclip the side, if you try going out to the middle from one side only, you cannot unclip the other side. Here s a picture of the front removed. (I hope), you can then see the screws easily.

Sorry, just seen this - could have helped out as I put one of these in mine the other week.

With that view, now you've got the trim off, you can just unscrew the 4 screws from the corners and pull the unit out.

Yep, all I need now is the new fascia panel. Just phoned the dealers and he can't find a part no for it. He believes it's ot available, but he's going to check around. Can't believe no-one seems to have done this yet.

Ah well, progress at least. It's what happens when you're at the cutting edge :)

Just run around with no fascia for a while; the industrial look!

That's what I did when I had my 'issues'. Kind of got used to it, it looked funny when I put the silver surround on again!

Woo hooo,

Sat nav now in and running. I've even got the fascia panel from TPS in Slough.

If anyone needs the part no for the panel for either the VRS LE or the FL Octi's here it is:

1Z0 858 069 BK 2AU

Price was £30.25, bit of a jump since the last fascias but it does have an extra section around the new style climatronic.

If anyone is looking at replacing the climatronic panel for the new one and is running a Stream/Bolero HU, then I've got a fascia panel if you want it.

All I need now is someone near Slough with Vag Com who could do me a favour and re-code it for full functionality.

Just another question,

if you want to install the Bolero in an 07 VRS, will the aux connector in the Jumbo box work without modification?
