confused over car tax

Featured Replies

so im looking at a mondeo st220, looking at car tax figures, says its band G on the adverts on auto trader, yet the same part of the advert stating how much co2 is 249 which would put it in band L, this is a major deciding factor in the car really, i refuse to pay £405 a year car tax, but id willingly pay £150. any help?

If it's a 3.0V6 ST220, then that CO2 of 249 is correct. Same engine as the one my Dad had in an X-Type.

yeah i just compared an 07 plate and a 52 plate, 07 plate even though is same emisions is £405, the 52 was £150, looks like im looking for an older st then:eek:

One thing to watchout for though. The government have only postponed the retrospective rise on cars going back to 2001, so in 12 months time the 52 plate could cost the same to tax as the 07 one.

The 52-plate is probably using the 2.5V6. Check the engine CC on the DVLA result on each car.

I'd avoid both though to be honest. Either 2.5 or 3.0 does like a drink and as Manny says, you could get hit for more tax further down the line. The 2.2TDCi ST was pretty good I thought, for a Ford ;) - or are you specifically after a petrol?

Agree. Got a Ghia X with that engine. Very quick and economical too! :D

Just wish it had traction control - big wheelspin in 3rd at 35mph with 3/4 throttle in the wet today  - and that was in a straight line!

And its only £150 a year tax. (161g/km)

You got it remapped? Pretty sure the Ghia X estate I tried with it in had full ESP - or was that an option  (was a Ford UK demo car).

Surprised a car with that level of spec doesn't have even basic TC...

Steve

As far as I know, it's the standard engine!

Think its the near 300lb ft of torque arriving at the front wheels that does it!

Probably that and my tyres are a bit rubbish in the wet.

I think ESP was standard on the ST and Titanium X but was optional on the Ghia X.
