Skoda Wash Concentrate

Screen wash concentrate HBA096039 £37.00 inc vat

Anyone lashed out on this expensive stuff?

That looks stupidly expensive, I just use Halfords stuff.

I used the Halfords stuff in the blue container when I had the fan washers on a Passat. It kept the nozzles clear, unlike some cheaper stuff.

However , my concern is really with the headlight washers on my Elegance. I assume they have plastic lenses which may be sensitive to solvents. Can anyone set my mind at rest that no damage will be caused?

That is expensive! Are you sure the decimal place in in the right place? I'm paying ~£3.20 for a litre from either VW or Skoda dealers. Oh, and aren't the headlights glass?

I've got the facelift model and the lenses sweep into the front wing -so I guess they are polycarbonate (as was my Passat's). Will double check when it stops raining.

The lenses on the MK II are all plastic.

FWIW how much is that 1L or a larger container?

If it's 25L or 1L of 10x more concentrated than usual then it might be ok.

The stuff referred to by the OP is shown on the Skoda Accessories site - ?koda Accessories - which also confirms the £37 price

The standard stuff is also there - ?koda Accessories

Not seen that stuff before - only the generic VAG bottles (is this the right one for... yes Sir, its the only one we do!)

I've seen it but it wasn't suitable for winter and cost under £10 last time I saw it in a dealer.

Go for Skoda, VW or Halford stuff - all seems to work OK. The Skoda and VW stuff is nice though, and not that expensive. Don't understand what the concentrate is all about - looks like a joke to me.

Its basically methanol in various concentrations and some perfume. I've cleaned the headlamp units with neat meths with no problems, so I wouldn't worry about them.

i buy the fan washer version from the vw garage which is vag approved and about £2 a bottle (1l) this is after i buy a box of 10 (10l total) and after discount of 15% it works out as above £2 if you go in and ask them how much for one bottle, let them say the price and then ask them "if i was to buy a box of 10, what would be your best price?"

Halfords Advanced Screen Wash is actually ethanol based (I just read the label).

But you can not concentrate the alcohol concentration beyond 100%. Going to be cheaper than £37 to buy vodka if all you wanted is dilute alcohol.

From some years of laboratory testing I'm not sure that polycarbonate could tolerate exposure to pure alcohol. It may have an anti scratch resistant coating , melamine IIRC from my distant past.Polycarbonate bike helmets are very vulnerable to such damage.

Can I sue the forum for a new laptop as the price of that Skoda screen wash made me choke & spat my tea all over it! They've got be having a laugh that price for screen wash....:orb_laugh

Here's one surprising use for the concentrated BMW screen wash...

I`ve never understood those people who buy THESE KIND OF car shampoos and windshield washer fluids. The price is high and those aren`t any better than those sold on "normal" stores...even if there isn`t a text SKODA on the side of the bottle, you can get a good stuff.

And one thing is, that when you take your car to service, always remember to mention that washer fluid is NOT TO BE ADDED !! :thumbdwn:

Just be careful that the washer fluid that you buy is the correct one for the 'fan' style washers on the Octavia, as other washer fluids can cause them to block up, hence the spate of washer hoses 'blowing' off (it happened to me).

What is the correct type of fluid to use then? I'm guessing most of the blocked nozzles are down to contamination rather than a bad choice of washer fluid.

and more to the point, why did the OP write in such small text??

I had used the fluid from Halfords and this caused the problem. I have noticed in the past if I had pre-mixed it with water and left it in the garage, then you ended up with 'lumps' of 'stuff' in it.

The dealer recommended the fluid that he sells (obviously), but I'm afraid that I don't know what the difference is

Possibly too much detergent and not enough alcohol (Not unlike cheap wine)...

If you're in a hard water area this might be a component of the lumps appearing in the fluid, but since I know I'm definitely in a hard water area, premixed washer fluid might be a very good plan for my car...

I use the Halfords pre-mixed SW in my Golf & it works, it cleans it & it's quite cheap too, I usually find it's B.O.G.O.F or B.O.G.O.H.P.

So buy 4 or 6 cans of it.

We`ve used expensive ones and cheap ones, year after year, kilometer after kilometer, and I can honestly say, that there ain`t much difference. So whatever you buy, it`s fine.

What?? Is it made by Gucci or something?

ps: I can use annoying font sizes too!

Halfords one use to gunk up my old car's screen wash bottle with nasty black stuff.

After having to have my bottle replaced (costly!) on the last car i used Autoglym's one but the dealer and in the press warn about using none VW stuff in the car. Anyhow dealer did 2 bottle for £5 last time and in the summer time you really don't needed as strong as they say so lasts

From Honest John:

"In winter, must only use Skoda approved screenwash, otherwise rear screenwash pipes can pop off filling spare wheel well with washer fluid. Skoda dealers often want £100 to fix even when car is under warranty.

I use halfords pre-mix as well, and no issues.
