Heated windscreen washer jets or not ?

Featured Replies

I am eagerly awaiting delivery of my new Octavia Elegance hatch which should be in September.

I have downloaded the 'Official Octaivia II Facelift documentation' as posted by DGW on 01-02-2009 and I have searched the forum but I still cannot ascertain whether my model will come with heated windscreen washer jets or not.

Could someone who maybe owns one please confirm whether I will get heated windscreen washer jets or not ?

Many thanks.

Not on my MY09 Elegance F/L, do not think it's on the L&Ks either.

I've just opened up the July 09 Octavia booklet that I got from the dealer and it makes no mention of heated windscreen washers anywhere, the only extra washer feature I can find is for the optional Xenon headlights, but no mention of heated washers.

No, it wont be included as its not even available as an extra. Not really a problem though, as even through last winters coldest days mine still worked just fine as the jets themselves are located out of the main airstream.

When I had heated washer jets on a previous car, it made no difference. The washer fluid still freezes in the pipework/reservoir. If they made any difference when the temperature was near freezing, I never noticed.

The correct way is to maintain correct and adequate windscreen additive in the fluid. Use only original VAG fluid for cars with fanjets.

In my 2009 pre-FL, the manual says "the windscreen washer nozzles are heated* when the ignition is switched on"

The dreaded * of course means my car may or may not have it - but the point here is that there is an option to do that - so would be surprised if this isn't an option in the FL models too.

Incidentally - my jets are set too high and mostly go over the roof even driving at motorway speed - I assume this is easy to adjust. Only got the car on Sunday and haven't had a chance to look at them yet.

Driving down from Morzine in the Alps this new year, it took about 100 miles before my washer jets started working again!

The heated washer jets are available in colder climates where the average ambient temperature is way lower than here in the UK. Since the manual is just a translation of the manual used for all markets, all options even those not available in the UK are shown.

Adjusting the jets is easy just move them where you want them, no messing with pins or anything like the older designs - Lifting the bonnet gives more access to the jets, but I adjust them with the bonnet closed.

You can order them with the heated jets here, but nobody bothered. I got the car outside in a proper blizzard at -22C plus the wind chill and with good quality fluid I didnt have any problems, although some of the other cars' doors froze shut and had to be thawed with a diesel powered hot air blower.
