"All cars give feel" - True in principle, but some give so little of it that I can't reliably detect where the limit is until I'm over it.

I've tweaked the above paragraph ;)

To me, that's a car problem.

And, of course, everyone's entitled to their opinion - however, the fact that some people can drive them quickly and competently suggests otherwise, imho :D

All a good driver can do to compensate is drive slower!!

I've been lucky enough to have exposure to a police driving school where they have Mondeo, Octavia and Vectra driving school cars. These cars are driven at high-speed without suffering from "terminal understeer", "torque steer" or any other journo mumbo-jumbo and in terms of performance, it seems a fairly level playing field. The skill is not in driving slower, but being more accurate with inputs and feeling what is going on at the road/tyre interface with the finger-tips so that available grip can be maximised. This skill is applicable to any car, imho, irrespective of how much "feel" it lacks. Btw, I won't tell you which car is the favourite ;)

The corollary to "a bad workman..." is that a craftsman doesn't choose bad tools, and will tell others when he finds bad tools. I have no idea where this places muttering rotters!!

And opinions are like ar$eholes....... ;)

Do you know what saddens me about this. Someone has been bought a car which I imagine wasnt cheap. Its a very nice car as well and all some people can say is 'sorry, should have got the other one'.

What about... 'feck me someone bought you a car! They must think something of you!'

I think some comments on this thread have been as sensitive as a brick to the face

Argeed, one of the most positive posts in this thread.

And while some of you may not like it, as said already - look at the stick Skoda used to get, but yet we still bought them.

Just hope that the OP enjoys the car, not a bad present to get in any ones book in my opinion!

Can you tell her it's Christmas soon and i'd like a new car as well

And today is Wednesday......so where are the pictures!!!

Always had a soft spot for the GSI's

:D if she bought you a car what would that leave for me:P

well i dont pick the car up while saturday now, cars about 50 miles away from where i live and couldnt get a lift down there on wednesday so told the guy id pick it up on saturday morning instead, which suits me abit better so if i happen to stop at anytime on saturday ill take some pics

You'll have to stop at some point on saturday...

All the driving you'll be doing will need fuelling up!

Although a lot of people dislike the car, I quite like the looks and the interiors. I've not driven one, but have been passenger and found the cabin quite a nice place to be!

I think a lot of anti-Vectra comments are based on the poor fit & finish & niggling faults that the "cheap as chips" big leasing fleet ones have (i.e. 1.8 Petrol/ 1.9 Diesel). I've driven plenty of those & pondered, couldn't they have spent a little more time & thought to get it right at the factory. Quantity versus quality.

I'd like to think that (even GM should realise) that the bigger engine / higher spec' cars should be put together on a production line that runs a little slower, where the workers are proud to get it right, rather than one where the clock is ticking.

In which case, I think that the OP's wife has hopefully bagged a bit of a bargain really. Certainly a nice present anyway

My gripe with Ford and vauxhall is the bland interiors. It's only that last few marks of each that they've realised their customers actually want style AND functionality for the money. As the Germans and Japanese have done for years.
