brake fluid level light AND beeper

Featured Replies

Ok I was driving to work last night and suddenly the brake fluid level warning light comes on and some beeping to accompany it. I drove on - carefully - although the brakes seemed fine. I left the car in the garage overnight hoping that when I returned it would be ok :) no such luck .....the brakes seem fine but the continuous beeping and the light are still there. The beeping stops when the car does but the light remains on. I have checked the brake fluid level and round the wheel cylinders for leaks.

The power steering came on the other day but a restart cured that oh and the headlights flicker...........flippin cars

you could always try topping up the brake fluid res....?

should have said... mine did this.. despite level not looking low at rest.. clutch draws from same res.. - other thing to check is that the wire has not become detached from the sensor.....

Well I doubt if I can get anymore in there.......it looks pretty well full.

Had the power steering come on once but the car had been unused for three weeks. After a while the light went off - think it was a case of all the fliud settling.

Deffo worth checking brake fluid as Paul suggests - not worth risking.

off to check me wires............brb :)

well I've checked me level 'again' and its well up on the max mark and the wires to the reservoir seem ok ........is there a handbrake sensor somewhere?

Handbrake is seperate, try driving a few yards with the handbrake on & you will get a sort of bell ringing sound, at least you do on my Octy 4x4. Also the red handbrake light stays on. It only needs to be on a couple of clicks so no need to try & drive with it fully on.

Try disconecting the battery for a couple of minutes, this will clear the warning lights, if it does it again after youve re-connected it then you have a problem or dodgy electrics/sensor. NOTE it may not do it imediately, it might take a few days to re occur

Does the dash light come on and off when you operate the handbrake? If it doesnt then the switch attached to the handbrake may have jumped of its mounting or the wiring to it has become disconnected.

I have had the hand brake switch jump off its mounting on ours so it does happen.

Hope this helps

Yes Dougal, this is exactly whats happened..........popped along to my local Skoda dealer and a friendly techie pinpointed my problem but couldn't fit me in to do it.....I'm back home now but how do I refit the switch ? I'm assuming I have to take the centre bit off?. I have found three star screws underneath the ashtray are there any more?

Ok I've located the screws ........three under the front ashtray and two under the back ashtray. Once these are off you can lift the centre console off or just up enough to enable you to refit the switch. I didn't know where the switch was so I had to lift the thing up as far as I could without taking the gearknob off ---- the switch actually slots in a hole in the handbrake bracket and the handbrake shroud activates it!.

All is well now no more bleeps  well not from the handbrake anyways ;)

Excellent, but note that it will have stored a DTC.

If you have VAG-com you should clear the code.

Will that be a problem when it goes in for its service? I just thought I would tell 'em I fixed it myself.......the car is out of warranty btw.
