Initial impressions of a VRS Cr Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all, I thought I would share my thoughts on my new car as I have now owned it for 2 weeks.

The car was one of the motorpoint ones and is the vrs cr tdi in race blue and it looks lovely especially when its clean!

I traded in my Audi A3 which was a petrol for this car as I fancied a bit more performance and with diesel being the same price as petrol it was a no brainer to go for an oil burner.

The interior of the car is pretty classy with the seats being very comfortable and they also help to show the sporty aspirations of the car with vrs logos. There are some parts of the interior where the Audi was better, the glovebox in the Skoda just feels cheap and also the plastic mock chrome interior door handles. Apart from these minor quibbles the Skoda is a nice car inside and reminds of another of my previous cars, a VW Golf, most importantly it is free of rattles and is well made with mostly very good and tactile materials. The boot is massive in this car and much bigger than my sportback a3 and there is plenty of storage space with lots of nooks and crannies.

The exterior styling is also impressive being kind of understated, which I like as I am a bit old to be a boy racer, with only the small vrs badges on the front and rear and the twin exhaust showing that it is a flying machine.

The engine is great I have only done around 500 miles on it and it has loads of power and at motorway speeds it is only slighly noiser than my previous cars. The power is fantastic from 2000rpm and above it just pulls like a train. I think you can feel a bit of a transition when the turbo kicks, below 2000rpm it just cruise along then put your foot down a bit and you just get pinned back on the seat as it accelerates away. At start up it is a wee bit loud but as said you soon get used to it.

Probably the best thing of owning one is the smug sense of satisfaction you get when you see a VW or Audi and you know that they paid a hell of a lot more for what is essentially the same car. All in all I am very pleased with the car and am glad I went for this rather than the Golf GTD which was £7000 dearer. :D

Glad you are liking your new wheels .

Where I work used to be a Skoda dealer, and I always enjoyed taking one of these out for a spin :)

Glad your enjoying it!

Great colour when it is clean, same as mine

I spent ages trying to find the one I wanted and luckily a dealer came up trumps for me.

Was going to opt for the petrol but am loving the oil burner

You were lucky to find a CR there were none when I was looking

Admittedly I had a blast in one of the Legacy's and I still loved that but hey we all have to grow up!

mine seems to be loosening up now after 10k and it seems to have a hell of a lot more pull than it did when i bought it :D:thumbup:

woo hoo! cant wait :)

Nice little review :)

Hmmm, CR TDi :rubchin: - you never know, I might have one at some point

Enjoy....

I had a diesel Leon Cupra before mine and find my engine significantly more flexible and usable now, as you don't run out of revs halfway through an overtake. Clearly not as economical though.

Good choice...just like mine. £7k better off - now I could do something with that.

I paid 14k for a 58 plated uk one, that was 10 months old with 10k on the clock, having spoken to the motorpoint team. I was a bit put off with the non uk spec, but to each their own.

I can't believe how quick these cars are. I had a vectra 150 cdti with a power box on, and the octy is so much quicker. A million miles better than the vectra.

Top choice. I love mine. I'm a right sad git, everytime I look out the window or walk past it, I have to stop and admire it.

I have had my CR TDI (09 LE) now since I joined the forum in mid June now it is at 2K on the clock, I went from a Petrol 1.8T 05 VRS to the 2.0L 170bhp CR unit. One reason I did so was the economy of the petrol unit TBH. I can easily say it has been a magical change in costs even after 6 weeks. Does not have the same pace off the mark as the 1.8T petrol, but more than makes up for that in 3rd and 4th gear, performance - this to me is a revelation. Another revelation si the Cruising on the motorway at 70-80mph in 6th gear the car goes on forever, wonderful MPG with response when you need it.

Also worth noting that the insurance premium is much lower, a real surprise when I consider the performance of the car. My first diesel car and I am really chuffed with it, my second Skoda VRS and again no car in its class gets close for VFM when it comes to build, performance and the feeling you are driving a hidden gem no-one knows about.

  • 1 month later...

I ordered mine last week, went for Black Magic Pearl and can't wait! Haven't stopped grinning since i went for a test drive.

The TDI was a no brainer for myself, 80miles a day, up and down the motorway each weekday.

It's great to see such positive reviews :D
