Babs' Mk3 Golf VR6

Featured Replies

Finally got my mitts on the boyhood dream car - a 1997 Mk3 Golf 2.8 VR6 in Dragon Green :D

It was the car that turned me on to performance cars at 15, my Dad's mate had a mint one and I just fell in love with the sound of it.

This one has 74k on the clock and full VWSH, damn-near as mint as you can get! Full electrics and air con.

Got a Miltek cat-back on it, sounds awesome. Pulls hard. And is a comfortable cruiser.

Better pictures tomorrow!

You got it then :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I think you would have been better off with a nice diesel engined car though. You know better MPG and it would go better up hills or something.

Very nice

Would be more than happy having that on my drive with the Fabia vRS!! :D

Excellent choice Sir!

And from that pic it looks really tidy as well

Looking forward to seeing some more pics

Cheers

Cheers all :)

I know dervs have their place... but on my driveway is not one of them! I do 5k a year now, if that, so fuel's not an issue lol.

Will put up a project log soon.

It's got a few scabs of rust on the arches (typical Mk3 Golf thing, so not an issue really). Aside from that, paint and body is very, very good.

Looking at some coilovers and some wheels, but that's all at the moment. Although I have been looking at supercharger kits

Looks well for the year Babs :)

Get some more pics up when you can.

hehe a proper car,love it:D

Top purchase

Look forward to more pics too :)

Steve

Love the sound these make under full 'chat' .......................... nice find

Is this to replace the A4 Babs?

Steve

Very tidy

Is it a relatively easy job to fit a supercharger? It'd sound sweet as with one :D

Oh yes! It'll be on the rollers at the next Awesome RR day :D

It is mate, bought something I wanted rather than put up with what was available. My Dad's buying the Audi back off me, he's getting a damn good deal

£1500 kit for 250+ bhp, and looking at it, I should be able to manage it in my garage in a weekend :)

From what I've read, they can handle a fair bit of boost on standard internals, so it's literally bolting on a bracket, fitting a drive belt, fitting pipe work, putting new ECU chip in!

Looks nice.

I don't like the round twin headlights...but thats just me!! :D

Some of my boyhood cars are the mk1 and mk2 Golf

The VR6.....I's not a straightforward V6 is it?

*Just read the Wiki and it isn't!!

nice, you do know they cost about £250 a year to tax though??

I'm not a fan of the twin style headlights either :)

Tom - what's the tax issue you're on about? It's a pre-2001 by a long shot, so how can it cost that to tax

Twin headlights are going, and it's "Over 1.5 litres" so tax is a shade over £200/year.

Will probably get it to Awesome at some point for a check up.

I like that. Have to agree about the twin lights, but a very nice car.

Where are these better pics Babs? ;)

On the camera, can't find the lead!

Bit of a faff about the "full VWSH", it's not showing on the main DB apparently. But the car's had 2 private plates on it, one fairly early on for 3 years. The book looks fine, the stamps aren't identical etc. And it too good to have only been serviced 10 years ago lol!

Trying to get it booked into Awesome for an inspection.

Good call on the inspection - always worth doing

Current tax costs:

6 Months, £104.50 & 12 Months £190.00.

HTH,

Steve.

Ooh £190, bargain!

Booked in for a full 20k service at Awesome in September

i'm looking around for a vr6 engine at the moment,i know it will destroy the handling on a mk2 but its that noise!!!!!!!!

... I just fell in love with the sound of it.

Got a Miltek cat-back on it, sounds awesome.

I'd get your hearing checked if I were you.

How can it sound awesome with a Petrol engine in it?

Unless you're referring to the in-car stereo perhaps playing a CD of diesel sound recordings

:D

Nice colour though & I'm sure it could converted to a nice PD130 engine
