Maxidot add-on, why bother.

Featured Replies

Ive been reading another thread where Maxidot was on the top of a list of add-ons.

What is so desirable about Maxidot; apart from looking a bit "posher" and giving access to some codes that I think I probably wouldnt care about.

But Im willing to be convinced ....

Personally I think a multi-functional steering wheel would be a much better add-on - if only it were a option for the VRS.

I would also have it near the top of my list, although it's not an issue here in Ireland as all vRS have it standard!

Its really good if you have mfd2/ rns510 sat nav as it displays all the navigation/radio/cd info on the maxidot.

I also like being able to change settings in the car which otherwise would require vag-com etc

As above. You can control lots that you cant without diag software. Plus if you upgrade to sat nav, then you get on dash directions as well.

It is very desirable, and could value your car more highly come part ex or private sale.

I have the MFSW and Maxidot on the elegance for £175 from the factory. Maxidot alone is £500+ to retrofit ;)

A car with the standard trip computer has a large blanking plate in the centre of the dash which just looks low rent.

Cor, I need to start charging your prices mate! Around £300 using a brand new cluster and I'm working on a much cheaper option using refurbished clusters ;)

Well mine cost around £500 to retro-fit.

But only because the muppets at the first dealership I went to failed to correctly install it, got my car stuck in some kind of testing loop and I ended up paying another dealership to fix that and fit the cluster correctly!

But really you should be able to retro-fit for around £250 - £300.

So £175 at the factory is a steel.

Whats MFSW?

Just

I'm getting an elegance but the maxidot is £125?

MFSW = Multi Function Steering Wheel.

Yes, 125 is the price for Maxi Dot with the Elegance.

Yes that's the current price. Back in 2006 when I ordered mine, it was £175
