Cam Belt Change

Featured Replies

I know it was asked before and it's reccomended for 60k or 4 years

I'm collecting my Fabia VRS on Monday and my work whom i'm buying it through are refusing to change the belt as they say it's not due!

I really don't want to pull out of the deal so is their anyway i can get them to change it without resorting to cancelling the car?

Is it truely as said 60k or 4 years?

yes!......cancel the car...

simple

Dealer told me mine is 80k/4 years

BLT engine

OMG. This has been done to death, Every Kitten in the country will have to be shot. Some cars are 60K, some are 80k dependent upon the engine.

Personally, I had mine done this week at 60K despite my service schedule being 80k.

Why?

1) for peace of mind.

2) I'm only a couple of months short of 4 years at which point the whole 60/80k issue is irrelevant anyway.

Should you cancel the car? It's up to you. Would you buy a car privately with this service history? Perhaps you wold if you could negotiate a big enough discount to allow you to do the work.

As with all things in life, you pays your money and you takes your choice...............

Sorry for the rant but I've had a few beers.

Only problem i have is no one can value my car due to it being a special edition and having the Mountune Performance kit on it. And i really can't afford to keep it. Mu work is doing me a favour of buying the car off of me as no one else will touch it. So i really am desperate to get the Fabia

It has a Full Service history. 2 Skoda stamps and 1 Renault Stamp as it was in our Renault Dealership for sale

Tbh i've decided not to pull out of the deal as i know a Skoda mechanic so will give him some cash and get the belt done myself for my own peace of mind

Cheers folks :)

where do you work ?.........i work at a Renault dealers myself

Quick one,,,how much would you pay for a dealer service including belt change ?

It was for sale in our Stirling Renault Branch

Dunno about the service mate tbh, i'm a valeter lol sorry

Hello,

As said, this point has been raised on other threads, some of what appears sometimes a bit of a mystery.

I personally was told by two seperate main Skoda dealers two different tales.

It seems it all boils down to two things as said, mileage or age of vehicle.

You will hear anything from 40,000 to 80,000 miles or 4 years to 6 years on this very site.

Personally because of low mileage, when my 2005 Fabia VRS reaches 5 years the mileage approximately 45,000 miles, will be the time I shall have the following done .

Change cambelt with tensioners etc, auxcillary belt, and water pump, add a full service which then should cover most things required.

Suggest you ask the car dealer for some sort of guarantee at the dealers garage, stress this point alarms you and what are they prepared to do about it, maybe work-out a total price all-in, the car and the repair??

Good luck on whatever you decide. Ian. 16/08/2009 ;)
