Gear Box Fault

Featured Replies

I've only had my Felicia a month but the gear box has given up the ghost. I'm really keen to get it fixed asap but i've been quoted £1320! Can anyone recommend a reliable dealer near Tunbridge Wells that isn't going to charge me the earth or could fit used parts?

Any help would be great!!

Best bet would be to phone round scrapyards and try to source a decent second hand box. Also pot a wanted in the wanted section.

Moved to the Felicia section.

What's wrong with it?, if its whining in 5th gear, it is a common fault with a realtively straight forward fix.

Skospares on 01202 722666 are a specialist Skoda breaker and are quite likely to have a gear box for your car. The it's a matter of finding a garage to fit it for you.

Search for "5th gear nut" for more details on fordfan's post.

Are you sure it is the gearbox and not the clutch?

THIRTEEN HUNDRED pounds? What do they think they're looking at - a ****** Ferrari? The last gearbox that quit on me (not a Skoda but another typical bog-ordinary FWD motor) I paid £70 for a working box from a breaker and £80 for a local garage to fit it, the latter only because the weather was wet and I didn't fancy spending a day lying in the road. OK, I got a fair bargain on both scores but there's a long way between that and £1320. I'd avoid that outfit if I were you.

i've got a 1600 gearbox that you can have for free if you come and get it, it will fit the 1300cc one too if you swap the rear mount over
