AUB/BBZ EGR valve

Featured Replies

I am fairly sure i need to replace mine, however is it possible to blank them off ? I have seen it done on a number of cars before and apparently this is a common fault on the vw's :( - if i could remove it and blank the holes left it would be easier :)

Short term option maybe ???

EGR reduces combustion temperatures, and is part of the ECU program for emissions. Removing EGR on a petrol car may cause an MOT fail. It will cause a CEL light unless mapped out by a tuning company. Best to simply replace it if it's giving problems.

Must admit I've seen it done on Diesels with no problems and the older petrol vauxhall engines.

Will have to look into it more, loathed to spend £100 for the part to it just go wrong again in 13months time !

Have you tried cleaning it?

In my personal opinion (I had the same issue) I would rather leave it be and come MoT time, find somewhere that does free retests, then get it sorted if it causes an emissions fail.

In a way that would be good, as Skoda parts have a 2 year warranty.

Tried cleaning already, made abit of difference for the short term, pretty sure its fairly seized with rubbish :(

Been quoted £98 for a new one, but might try removing and blanking instead, see if it throws a wobbly :)

Just to close this off should someone search for the same thing, i have blanked the exhaust side off with some metal cut and trimmed to shape, only 3 mm stainless, and it is working fine. All the symptoms are sorted and it generally seems much happier.

I know all the tree huggers will no doubt complain but ho hum thats the way it is
