Running de-cat

Featured Replies

I still have not found out how to get away with a de-cat fitted. I.e. how to get rid of that warning light that says your cat has just exploided.

does any one know how to get round it. I was talking to a subaru guy and he said just put a resistor across the sensor wires!

cheers powertuningsales

Some tuners can software disable the post cat lambda sensor. If you're remapped speak to the tuner that carried it out.

APR and Jabba can defo do this....

So can Revo and I assumed others also would, I suspect AMD can also do it along with those mentioned.

funny you should mention a resistor across the connector... i was talking to someone the other day about decats and they said something about looping a wire back to the sensor to fool it into thinking it was still connected. doing this would surely throw the ecu into headless chicken mode though as no results would be reading from the lambda.

i'd have a chat with a tuner as above.

I believe vagcom will remove it but ive been told it will only just come back up again 300 miles later.

disconecting the battery for 2 mins removes it but it always comes back, answer is a sports cat

I found the light makes a nice friend for the Traction control is off light...don't worry about it. But do check frequently for other issues.

Small piece of tape over the warning light?

Used to have to do this on my mazda due to the dazzling high beam warning light.

I understood when its on the cars "brain" detects a fault & backs all the settings off just in case to prevent damage. If Im correct whats the point of a full de-cat if all the settings are backed back reducing performance or is it just flames you want

Stuart,

I noted no difference in real world perf with it on or off...

If so I'd like to know as I'd be really missing my decat if it was retarding somehow.

Is this a similar issue with aftermarket brake pads-doesnt the warning light come on?

No...this is because the pads don't have any wear indicators.

If you loop the connectors together...no low brake pad warning light...sorted.

Thanks for the info ;)

Running a decat doesn't back off any settings - it just throws a warning light (the check engine light or CEL). As far as I know, currently NO-ONE can map this light out. "Someone" is having a go - but so far no-one can do it. Anyone with vag-com can reset the light to turn it out - but it does return after a few hundred miles.

I was told it did but you may be correct

Disconecting the battery also resets it as I said so you dont need vag-com. One posssible solution (bodge) is to fit a switch on one of the battery leads, that way all you need to do is switch it off for a couple of minutes then back on & light will be out, saves having to get the spanners out. I would suggest a fairly heavy duty switch, only down side I can see is you have to reset the clock each time if you bother with the clock & the radio if the code is enabled, I believe many Skodas come with it disarmed so not a problem

Other options:

1) You could get a 'black box' from the states which sends back a false reading to the O2 sensor

2) Mount the rear O2 sensor as far out (using extension adaptors) from the exhaust as possible

If you search VWVortex they have tried both these methods - i don't think there is any definate answer currently.
