Auto dimming mirros

Featured Replies

Well.. just took my new O2 FL 1.8 TSI DSG L&K..

Great car.. fantastic gear box.. everything is more than I've expected and everyone is surprised how L&K does not look like ordinary Octavia..

Now bad things.. I've got auto dimming mirrors.. interior one is fine.. left one is fine.. but it seems that on right one - auto dimming is not working and I'm quite sure about that.. on those two light is kind a green when is dark but with right one I can see when someone has stronger or damaged lights..

I've notice that left mirror has tiny dark circle close to the outer line of mirror (like 2-3 cm close to the end) - but not on the right one..

Any experience? Or should I go to the dealer right now?

Anyone?

Hi,

Is your car LHD or RHD (UK)? I.e. is the mirror with the tiny dark circle on the driver's side?

My car only has the interior dimming mirror and the light sensor is located just above the glass (I think). What's the setup on cars with multiple dimming mirrors, do they all work from the interior light sensor or do they have their own sensors?

If the tiny dark circle is a light sensor, does it mean that both wing mirrors work from the one sensor, or does it mean that only the one side is mean to dim?

What does the user guide/manual say? Are you 100% sure both wing mirrors are meant to dim? Obviously if only one is dimming, I'd expect it to be on the driver's side!

Cheers,

Richard.

Big thing on the german board. Since the FL there will only be ONE auto dimming outside mirror.

Not as in the pre-FL where both mirrors are auto dimming.

In the LHD version only driversside is dimming, right one isnt.

There is also an official statement from Skoda (as there is for leaving out a sparewheel).

Excuse my ignorance, but what's "FL"?!

FL = Facelift

FL = Facelift

Thanks. It makes some sense though, I think it's of little benefit in the passenger-side mirror, it's probably of marginal benefit in the driver's side mirror!

Personally from bitter experience I'd like to be able to dim both door mirrors but can't do either as I don;t have that feature.

I only have the interior dimming mirror, but I think it's by far the most important one for auto-dimming because it's the closest to your face and tends to face right into the headlights of vehicles behind.

That is true. BUT if you already ordered autodimming outside mirrors, they should dim both. I have both mirrors pointing at the eyes, so both mirrors will give you the beam of the car behind you. If one is dimmed and the other one isnt, you will still be blinded.

Curious is, that the interior FL had the option with 2 dimming mirrors and it already had the same (big ear) mirrors the FL has.

But can you actually specify WHICH mirrors you want to auto-dim? Or do you just order the "auto-dimming mirror(s)" option?

What I meant was, even though all mirrors point to your eyes, it's the interior mirror that's closest to you so tends to direct the most light to you. Or perhaps what I mean is, because it's closest (and therefore covers a greater area behind the car), it's more likely that a beam from a car behind is going to be in your eyes for longer and hence cause annoyance?

I'm from Bosnia so it's not UK model and left mirror is next to driver..what's strange is that when I've placed order - option was "Auto folded, electrical, heated, auto dimmed" (or something like that) "mirrors" (i.e. plural).. User manual is mentioning auto dimming for "mirrors" (plural again)

But I have spare wheel :) (produced in august 2009)...

I don't think that it's not important if this option consider both or just driver's mirror.. When driving on the road with multiple lains it's problem creator when someone is flashing..

But DSG is fantastic.. unreal.. :)

It's a change that's been brought in throughout Europe. Just the driver's side dims now.

Agree.. If I was prepared to pay over 25K EURO for L&K then I should at least have an option to chose - driver one dimmed or both.. even if this means hundred on top of the price..

But what to do.. They need to pull restraints.. :) Maybe someone will decide to by VW just because double auto dimming mirrors :)

It seems to me that most manufactures continually improve the specification of their cars with new models having more and better features than the one they replace. Skoda seem to have adopted the opposite policy and I suppose we can expect the 2010 Octavia to look like this :

My Octavia which is bopund to arrive in jan does not have dimmed (outside) mirrors.

Does anyone know if these can be retrofitted? My dealer was qouting me 500 Euro for them to be factory firtted in the RS FL. What is the best place to source these.

yes it can be retrofitted... you just need few wires and new mirror /only new glass/ as far as you have inside dimming mirror, otherwise you need new inside mirror, new windscreen, new rain/light sensor...

do you have auto dimming rear view mirror?

Yes, it was ordered with this.

The mirror sensor works them all. It's the hole next to the green LED ;)

The price for the ones listed above is quite good. My question is would you suggest I bring the car to a Skoda dealer give them the new glass (mirrors) and ask them to hook them up or is it best to give the car to some independent auto-electrician

I have all wiring diagrams, it is very easy... Wires from the rear view mirror to A pillar are already there, you have to put wires only from A pillar to the new mirror glass..

Electrician must have wiring diagrams for your car..

Any idea on alternative way of sourcing auto dimming mirrors. When purchased from dealer, my understanding is that these are very expensive.

Has anyone retrofitted these.

Days getting shorter so would like to take care of them. Octavia RS FL 2010 is my car
