Argh. With my newly corrected long coding (no more incorrect coding fault code), I tried to go up to 2664 again. Same old fail at 87%. I've enabled the hidden menu this time, such that I can disable downgrades and hopefully get the downgrade failed screen. Trouble is I just can't for the life of me get out of the SWL loop now. :( Given up for the night.

Right >> here <<

That looks like the one from my-gti.com which will only work with a VW unit, not a Skoda one.

That's not what I wanted to hear :(

Why do you need to downgrade? ...you might help some one else out if you say so? :)

Reason why i am downgrading is because with the latest software update all is fine on the unit apart from 1 problem which is after the upgrade my aux video input has gone its got a mind of its own, sometimes it will come up on the screen but more often than not it doesn't.

I have tried the vw rns 510 in my car with the 1100 firmware it all works fine so its a bit of a mystery this one.

Thanks for the link simbo99:thumbup:

You will get track & nav info in your Maxidot - the issue was first mentioned by wega3k here on the very first page & loadsa times since...

I had a unit off ebay that was fitted by my dealer and the maxidot etc worked ok with the arrows etc showing. The unit wasn't working right though. The maps wouldn't copy to the hdd so i sent it back and put my Bolero back in. This showed up on the maxidot. Received a replacement Columbus fitted it and upgraded firmware and loaded new maps everything ok .Only thing is not showing in Maxidot. What do i do now? Do i have to code the columbus as if it were a new installed unit. I thought the existing data would cover it.

Iv'e now got access to Vagcom so what do i need to do? Help i'm ready for ripping it out putting the Bolero back in and buying a TomTom.

If the maxidot has never worked then its most likely a coding problem or a loose wire connection on the large connector plugged into the columbus, if it worked before the firmware update then did you modify the firmware image as per the guide on my-gti.

If your car came standard with Columbus then I reckon you should be ok, from what I have read across various forums is it seems to affect (some but not all) retro-fits on early cars with early version CAN gateways (E,F that sort of vintage)

I got an S revsion (latest version I think) from Ebay.de for £80 as my car never had Columbus but did have an E version gateway.

Mine is a retrofit, done last year. I am still holding off for now, I guess that I need to find out which can gateway is fitted, but I dont want to take the car apart to get at it.

It wasnt on the replacement unit before i upgraded the firmware so i think it i just a matter of coding it.

My new Octavia dealer fitted with the columbus arrives on Monday, anyone's guess I suppose what version of maps and firmware will be loaded..

Having just had a play with the Hidden Setup menu (thanks wega3k - it worked) and under the System submenu is the option to Enable SW Downgrade ;)

Took my Columbus to bits today, to have a look if it had indeed been soldered to read the security code and...

... Fresh solder and marks on the substrate around the eprom. Thanks a bunch grielka :(

I could be wrong but it looks like the soldered pins are serial data, serial clock, supply voltage. Given that the chip enable pins appear to be untouched, I'm assuming the existing security code is captured as the unit reads it from the eprom, rather than a new code being written to it.

My new Octavia has been supplied with V3 maps.:(.any idea where I can get V4 maps from ?

You Have PM

Carl:thumbup:

I suspect I might like V4 maps too :D;)

You also have PM :D

Carl:thumbup:

You could order a v4 disc from your dealer, pay for it and whilst you're waiting for it to arrive, hop on the 'bay and download the torrent of the image (you'll have it in ~2 hours). ;) Do make sure you pay for it first though!

I was going to say there is a certain level of irony going on if in one post we talk about stolen RNS510 units and how we really shouldn't buy them and then in the next we talk about alternative ways of getting V4 Maps without buying from your dealer.

after the upgrade on my columbus I miss the maxidot navigation option. How do I fix that?

Jesus wept, this is making my blood boil!!

I finally have the 4 .rar files. extracted to 1 .nrg file. Edited the 2 files in magicISO as per previous posts.

Now what? Does it matter what name I call the new image? MagicISO seems to have changed it from an .nrg extension to a .ISO. Does this matter?

What program do I burn it to DVD with? I have Power2Go on my laptop, will this do? What settings are needed for burning? Does it need to be a bootable disc or not? What file extension will/should the final burnt DVD be?

I hate computers sometimes! Please help a technophobe!!

Just burn it with imgburn.

Good man! That's done the trick.

All installed and updated to 2664, 32GB SDHC card is now working a treat!

Well Simbo, I happen to have a newer CAN gateway, so if yours is working fine on 2664 otherwise and I get mine 100% running on 1004 again, maybe we can come to some sort of arrangement... :D

Tempted fate by saying that...

Oh dear....just like magic reported further up the thread & in other forums too - gonna have to downgrade! :thumbdwn:

Had a flat battery whilst away  Process of elimination (pulling the radio fuse) it's definitely this 2664 firmware update / old CAN gateway that's the issue!

Sorry to hear about the flat battery Sim - is there a sticker on your radio casing stating date of manufacture ?

Mine was August 2008, and, hoping I'm not in contact with the same piece of wood as you, appears to be operating OK. I got rid of my last car because of battery charging problems, and reckon that might have been down to a badly wired-up stereo.

I have a rev P CAN gateway. I mean in my car, not spare! The deal would be my repaired but un-upgradeable 510 + some cash for your upgradeable 510. ;)
