From a Yamaha Race press release,

"Unfortunately I ran wide on to a dirty part of the track at turn one and lost the front. I tried to carry on but there was a problem with my throttle and it wasn't possible."

He certainly ran wide, but the corner before he fell off.

The reason/excuse doesn't fit with what we saw. Lorenzo and Rossi took very similar lines where Rossi actually fell off.

Rossi ran wide on a left hander, but crashed just as he was about to turn into the right hander??

Before anyone jumps down my throat regarding this. Please watch the crash first as my point is unbiased and not a dig.

It doesn't make much sense to me either, it was like he slipped on ice, the bike just went from under him.

Since "We will show all MotoGP races live on BBC2" seems to have translated as "We...BBC2, as long as it doesn't interfere with repeats of cuddly animal programmes" I've not seen the race, but Vale failing to allow for dirty tyres from the previous corner?

May well have been something on the tyre from the previous corner.

Infact Gaff describes it perfectly......it was as if he'd hit a patch of ice.
