Try and blag the paint

I just had to put a vote in for the Scout - as my wife has one in Ocean Blue, a great vibrant colour (does well not to show road dirt too much). A few points/comments from what I have read so far;-

1. 16s vs 17s - stick to the 16s. They have 205/45 tyres (same as your Furby vRS) and IMHO the handling, steering response is excellent without the ride being too firm (Roomster's ride/handling is pretty sharp in the first place). If you get 17s the ride will suffer, you will be too much at the mercy of potholes and broken tarmac and I don't believe they will do that much more to improve the handling.

2. Sunset privacy glass is standard - get a light/mid body colour to show this off i.e. not anthracite or black

3. Centre armrest is useful on journeys, and gives extra storage, but I too push it up out of the way when driving in town

4. The Scouts 'plastic' bumpers are a quality item and I don't recommend you let them get scratched (they are not like old plastic bumpers that a rub with 'back to black' will sort out a scratch). Having said that, they do look smart and set off the chunky style of the car really well, but on the downside you can't fit mudflaps to them!

Finally; go and have a good haggle with your local dealer, you should be able to get a good enough discount and IMHO a 'relationship' with your dealer is worth far more than buying your car for £150-£200 less from DrivetheDeal or similar.

Good luck.

PS> Just to throw a 'curved ball' at this discussion; have you considered the new Yeti? 4x4 drive could be very useful up in East Lothian.

Hi everyone,

I've been quite quiet over the past week and for a reason!

I took the plunge at the weekend to purchase a new car or a year and a half old, I was looking at the Roomster but something else caught my eye at the garage local to me.

As from friday I will be the owner of a Ford C-Max Zetec 1.6TDCI, I had spent ages thinking about visiting the skoda dealer for a look at a 1.4TDI roomster as we decided we wanted something a bit slower as SWMBO tends to use the car more than me and something which does not stand out compared to the Fabia vRS.

The fact the C-Max was good value and had more spec won it for me, the car in question when new was about £20k new and I got it for just under 11k.

I would have sold the Fabia privately but the dealer was quite intrested in the car and offered me a good trade in with a set of tyres and refurbed alloy.

Congratulations!

Am I reading between the lines here?
