dont know what's wrong with my xenon

Featured Replies

hello guys , i have an octavia 2009 facelift

it has xenon light with dynamic angle control and auto leveling

the problem is that the xenon lens is not moving at all except when i start the engine , it make the lens dance even with light switched off , then whatever happened it will never move again. neither in curves or turns nor when i change the loading condition

which means the dynamic angle control is not working nor the auto leveling

and also i think it need adjustment , as it is so high in level , it needs to be lowered.

unfortunatley i dont have warranty , as i imported it from another country and our dealer here in egypt works only with cars imported by him. so am out of warranty, he refuses even to check the car.

so i am trying to fix it with the aid of a friend having VAG-COM

but we dont know what to do, also the manual screws to make the adjustment are diff then the pictures posted before , i posted my headlight unit , if anybody knows which screw is for leveling and which for horizontal adjustment i will be so glad if he tells me.

i really need assistance :((((( as i am really depressed

Have you checked the level sensors at the front and back of the car? Try disconnecting one end of the level sensor link rod and moving it by hand - see if the headlight moves then.

The headlights only move rapidly ('dance') when the system first switches on - it moves more gently during driving and you may not notice it.

You need to put the Xenons in their adjustment position (basic) BEFORE moving the headlight adjustment screws. You can do this with VCDS. I'm sure you will find the procedure on the Ross-Tech website.

Told you not to fiddle with VAG-COM unless you knew precisely what you're doing, now you've got problems, I'd suggest you now take it back to where you bought it and get it done properly.

As the saying goes: If it ain't broke, Don't fix!

no Indiana Jones , you miss understood me , we did nothing yet with the vag-com

what i meant is that the xenon is not working as it should , and i dont know what to do , i have a friend with vag-com who is ready to assist me if i tell him exactly what to do , but we did nothing yet

A 2009 car must still have a manufacturers warranty. Take it back to the dealer and let them sort it!

2 the problem , when i opened the boot , i find 2 screws " shown by red circle and by yellow circle " in the attached picture , i dont know which one is for horizontal adj and which for vertical ????

Ah, my apologies Mohamed.

As Niall has just said take it back to the dealer & let them sort it out, don't use VAG-COM it'll invalidate your warranty with the dealer you bought it from.

Its a factory backed warranty, so I believe this covers you for the first year. If in doubt, give Skoda a call.

unfortunately guys i am out of warranty here in EGYPT, i bought it from an importer , who get it From QATAR , and our dealer here in EGYPT refuse to make adjustment or checks even if i pay for him . so i have nothing to do except searching for help as i am doing now from this forum

i called the dealer here in egypt , in order to accept my car and treat it the same way as cars imported by him , i shall pay 1000 euro to them to accept the car.

if i pay it they will accept repairing my car

ok thanks for the advice Simbo99

1. No, basic mode just turns off the auto level and dynamic angle control so you can adjust the screws so the beams are at their reference positions. It is essential, this initial adjustment is done as all the auto adjustments are relative to this position.

Have you checked the level sensors as Hauptmann suggested. If a sensor has become detached or is in the wrong position it will drive the auto range to its limit and stay there. If someone, has adjusted the headlight aiming screws to compensate, then this may be your problem. When you put the headlights in basic mode the aiming will be way out.

Are you sure that you have dynamic angle control?

2. I can never remember. Turn one a whole turn and see what happens. If you got the wrong one, put it back and adjust the other.

Did this car have a PDI before you got it? I would have thought this sort of thing should have been spotted at the PDI.

i amnot quiet sure that it has dynamic angle control , but i heard that the new model 2009 facelift with xenon has dynamic angle control standard , this is what i heard

i dont know what do you mean by PDI ????

PDI = Pre Delivery Inspection. It is the set of checks the dealer does to ensure that everything on the car is working correctly before the customer drives it away.

I understand that you imported the car yourself, so a PDI may not have been carried out.

If you import the car yourself you run the risk of being part of the 'lemon trade'. In some areas of the world, cars that have failed a PDI are exported to private buyers in other countries.

With no dealer PDI, you may find problems getting anything fixed under warranty. In theory at least you should have a one year factory warranty on the car. You need to confirm this with the importer/Skoda.

Under normal circumstances, these problems should be fixed under warranty and you shouldn't be trying to fix them yourself as this would void the warranty.

The reason I ask about dynamic angle control, is that is may not be standard in all markets and even if it is present on the car, it may not be enabled in all markets.

HTH

So far as I am aware Skoda do not sell cars directly to private individuals anywhere in the world. They only sell to their appointed importers (some of which they own directly). The importer (through dealers usually) does the PDI. The cars leave the factory in 'transport mode' - which means with protective sheeting applied, battery/electrics in transport mode etc etc.

The dealer has to remove all this, perform level checks (fluids, tyre pressures), reset the service indicator, check and clear fault codes. I'm sure your car would have had a PDI done by the dealer in the originating country.

Loads of cars are shipped across borders (because of different price/tax regimes) - indeed I believe a lot of Czechs buy their Skodas abroad because they are cheaper than at home!

I have never, in 30 years in the motor trade, heard of a car 'failing' PDI ?

Your friend also need the latest version of vagcom to work with the FL cars. This may display extra options, and the cornering option you are looking for.

how many duplicate threads are there of this?

he is using version 805.1 gadgetman

I was just thinking exactly the same thing!

I'm also wondering if it was worth the hassle of getting the car from Qatar

Mind you, the Egyptian lot don't seem much better:

yeah artoc auto is our dealer here in egypt , and they refuse to check my car or do anything in it unless i pay 1000 euro first.

because my car was not imported by them but by car importer

pay 200 Euro under the table to the Service Manager - isn't that the way things work over there?

I can understand the dealers perspective but what does Skoda International (whatever the parent/factory is called) think about the whole thing?

How many Euro did you save buying from Qatar?

Threads merged.
