Is there any chance that you make another one for me??? Please yes.

I can send you my grille and buy mesh at ebay

GRILL BUMPER BLACK MESH SKODA FABIA OCTAVIA VRS SUPERB on eBay (end time 21-Oct-09 15:03:53 BST)

Hope that this is the same mesh as you used-pore size is perfect, not to big, not to small.

or you can buy it and I can send you money over paypal.

Please see if that is possible and what will be shipping to Slovenia (close to me in Croatia-live close to the border-to avoid custom duties and taxes in Croatia).

I already have Milotec three pieces freont bumper grille black.

GREAT WORK

DIY FMIC Bumper Mod Part 1

Re running this as some folks have asked me to supply pics due to the recent changes to this site the original pics can not all be seen.

Note : I decided to do this based on the knowledge that this will weaken the crash bar My choice. May not be yours so bare that in mind. Already some folks have made there comments but they are entitled to.

This will be probably in 3 parts as the qty of pics to be posted seems less now also.

Ok this covers a few pics of the crash bar removal and modding. Next part will cover the Bumper modding to expose the full FMIC.

Car on axle stands ready to go

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod002.jpg

Remove the 6 torx screws on either side of the Bumper arches

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod007.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod008.jpg

Remove 3 torxs screws on the top of bumper

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod011.jpg

Remove the Bumper grills to expose 2 torxs screws and remove them

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod012.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod013.jpg

Some VRS's have 2 screws underneath also remove these.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod014.jpg

Remove the Bumper side bolts(10mm) 2 per side.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod016.jpg

Get a helping hand to support each side and pull Bumper forward and away from the car. Job done

This will expose the crash bar and the FMIC if you have one already fitted

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod018.jpg

I had to remove the FMIC hoses and undo the bolts and nuts holding the crash bar to the car . If you still have the standrad crash bar you will have 4 bolts and 2 nuts to remove Car will look like this after removal.

DIY FMIC Bumper Mod Part 2

I removed the FMIC from my crash bar then used masking tape to mark up where I wanted to cut with angle grinder. This was after I measured the length of the FMIC.

Then went to town with the grinder and this is the result.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod024.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod109.jpg

Ok now this part covers the remaining part of the modification to the Bumper and final fitting. I can actually say I am very pleased with end result. It took longer to do it than probably most people would but this was due to me cleaning and re painting any part in site that I could not get to with Bumper and crash bar fitted. Hope you like the result.

With Bumper removed mark up the area where you will be cutting. This will be the reg plate area and the sides and bottom of the Bumper to remove the remnants of where the reg plate was and the centre grill fitments. I used a jig saw to first roughly cut out the area.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod029.jpg

Then used a rasp to get closer to the marker lines

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod035.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod091.jpg

Then finnally used sharp knife to gradually work the the line and finnish off with sand paper to make a good edge for the mesh to fit up to.

View from back

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod097.jpg

View from front. Note I left slight lip at the top to allow the black trim to fit into the oem holes and the mesh to overlap the top(can't see this when trim fitted)

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod100.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod124.jpg

Use cardboard template for mesh, marking it out through Bumper opening (you could just offer mesh up to the Bumper opening and mark it, but i found it awkward so preferred this method)

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod131.jpg

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod089.jpg

That's all i could fit, so Part 3 to come

FMIC Bumper Mod Part 3

I then sat template over mesh and marked mesh with masking tape. I then left an extra approx 10 to 15mm(shorter at the top of the mesh) to allow for folding it around the rear of the Bumper lip. I cut it and offered it up to the rear of the Bumper and then trimmed back any access.

Then I offered up the mesh and taped it in place to hold it. I then carefully folded back the extra part of the mesh around the Bumper lip and pressed it in place.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod134.jpg

Pic of mesh sealed in place (tiger seal) left over night with some heavy object pressing down on the sealed areas to keep it tight against the Bumper lip.

VRSFMICBumpermod010.jpg

Finnshed Mesh in place. Note the top of the mesh sits over the front of the bumper. This will be sandwiched between the black trim and Bumper to give it extra support.

SkodaVRSFMICBumpermod132.jpg

Refit Bumper (side grills not yet fitted)

VRSFMICBumpermod018.jpg

VRSFMICBumpermod017.jpg

Closer shot with side grills(milotec) now fitted. I got a nice match with the honeycomb grill effect as the milotec ones.

VRSFMICBumpermod006.jpg

Pic of the finnish to the Bumper with mesh sitting nicely. Paid off using some weight to press the mesh to the Bumper overnight.

VRSFMICBumpermod013.jpg

VRSFMICBumpermod015.jpg

sorry needs to be in 4 parts now....see if i can beat the Rambo series :giggle:

Billy cheers mate, I know you do, I would love to get you to do it, but I want to try and do most the jobs on the car myself, I am going to do this mod when weather permits. I may try and use the old Milotec mesh from that old dodgy grill but may be a bit small. So will probably use same mesh as bumper centre. Get those pics posted. What mesh did you use on his.

I think the milotec mesh will be too stiff mate,

and the one you used on the bumper looks to be too big I think for the bonnet, I used Kemai or somthing like that, it looks same as urs just samller,

To be honest mate I have tried to get ppl to let me make them but when I do I always get called for work lol so I not bothered. I do think you should do it tho.

here is the links to the stuff I got, first is the one I used and think looks ace, second is of what I think you used on the bumper and is similar size to the Milotec holes.

Yep mate think you might by right about the milotec being too stiff

The mesh I used in centre bumper was 20x8mm honeycomb so not as big as your second pic but bigger than your first which was 12x5mm

I may use the 12x8mm mesh i have 2 sets of this

Must say i'm very impressed it looks very good indeed .... i think if i did it i'd run it without the front plate :D but then again i dont do mega miles and would have to take it up the bum if i got caught.

Very Nice indeed mate :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Just thought id post up my alternative way round, maybe the "safer" option as less of the crash bar has been cut

bumper9.jpg

bumper4.jpg

stick the plate back over for day to day driving, then for track etc take the plate off

bumper2.jpg

looks good and its a good Idea,

only it could be worse if you hut a pedestrian you could chop something off, but its their fault for being in the way lol.

that way would keep more rigidity tho I would of thought.

billy

al sharp edges rounded off so its no unsafer than standard. but yeah. i thought rigidity may be an issue with the above so swayed me in favour of doing it slightly different

Great stuff mate, beautifully done and looks really professional :) One thing bothers me as I want to do the same... The link to the black mesh, as well as other ones I've seen are all in size 100cm/20cm or 100cm/25cm and the hole in the bumper is 26cm... How did You do it? Or maybe the mesh you got was different? Thanks

did mine the weekend, got a stick on plate being fitted tonight.
