How did you manage to cut the fascia for the unit?

  • Author

I cut it very slowly and carefully using a cutting bit in a Dremel, though if your very careful you can use a fine toothed junior hacksaw blade. The fascia I had bought separately had 4 retaining clips in each corner half way down the back of the fascia, i cut down the top and bottom inside edge to the clips, this gave me enough clearance to mount the unit correctly.

Just updated the MioPocket Install Guide, for those interested in ''other'' software, look right at the bottom of the guide...... cryptic but neccessary.....

Can anyone tell me if this unit has a detachable LCD for security? Really interested in one of these but don't like the thought of a screen being visible when the car is left.

The Eonon G2201E is available for a similar price and shows a detachable screen, but there are question marks as to whether the navigation software can be changed like the unit mentioned in this thread.

Has anyone fitted a screen like this in a MKII Octy and experienced any issues?

Hello buddy, no, the screen is not detachable, but, I wish someone good luck if they want to tea leaf mine, it will not come out unless some serious damage is done to sccreen and the console.

Ahyhoo.... The unit you have shown also uses WIN CE 5.0 so all the software should run fine on that unit....

No idea about the fitament to an Octy MkII.... though maybe one day Ill update mine to one...

HTH.

That's excellent thanks.

Although the unit might be near impossible to get out, the fact it's on display won't stop a thief from smashing my window and having a go. By the time they realise its not gonna happen the damage is already done.

The detachable version is the only way to go if I'm going to get piece of mind. Just hope it's as good as it looks. For the price I'm expecting there to be a major downside compared to a known brand all in one unit costing up to 5 times the price.

Hello buddy, what is your Stereo like, is it similar to mine where you access the Navigation software through an onscreen 'console' type menu, I believe it will be and if thats the case click this link and go right to the bottom there will be another link that may just interest you if you know what I mean....

This looks like a great piece of kit, any idea's if it would fit/work in an 05 Fabia vRS ?

I managed to install the TomTom software on mine but I would like to get all the maps off of my existing TomTom and put them on there (as I have all of Western Europe on my TomTom but the TomTom on the H/U only has United Kingdom and Northern Ireland).

Any idea how I can get this to work?

That would depend on the version of TomTom you are running and wheter the map set is compatible. There is some info on This site which may help. You would then need a Map cracker to modify the maps for the Nav units ID.

I would love to get TomTom working myself but my device is running Win CE 6.0r3 and there seem to be issues running Navigator on it :( so I'm running iGO8 for now.

Thanks for that link, I took the map files off my TomTom and ran them through the map cracker, then put the finished .DCT file on the SD card in the map folder (along with the .DCT file for United Kingdom and Northern Ireland) but it's still defaulting to UK and NI mapping instead of Western Europe. I'll try backing up the UK and NI maps tonight and starting it up with just the Western Europe one on there, see if that does the trick

Tried emailing Nuriyan (the thread starter) about it but it says he can't recieve PMs for some reason!

This may help and was what I was trying to find earlier Linky detailing core / map version compatibility

All sorted now, I had to put the Western Europe maps on a bigger SD card (wouldn't fit on a 1Gb one) but have now got it working with all the Western Europe maps. Brilliant!

do you all rate these headunits? Im very tempted on one for the fabia but still a little unsure.

@Matt_N

Have a look at Hauptmanns Write-up, if you haven't already, not exactly the same unit but mostly the same functions and similar interface.

Other than TomTom not working (yet) with Windows CE 6.0, so far I haven't had any issues with mine other than deciphering the manual. Playback quality is good to my ears but I don't profess to be an expert, it really depends on what you are expecting from a unit. I now have GPS / DVD / MP3 / Bluetooth all in a single easy to install unit - no more trailing wires for less than half the cost of a Columbus + BT and it looks quite respectable installed (see my pic at the end of the write up)

A lot is really down to personal taste.

Mine does what it was advertised to do but there were some things I've been a bit disappointed with:

1. No clear "main menu" screen, you have a menu screen for the unit but then another menu screen for the GPS part of it, both with their own settings menus, and different menus for sound and picture settings which is very confusing, it would've been better to have everything on one single menu.

2. There are track forward/back and volume buttons on the front of the unit but then there are also controls to change the tracks on the touchscreen - would have been less confusing to have one or the other!

2. Doesn't seem to be able to play music and do sat-nav at the same time (interrupting the music for sat-nav directions)

3. Bluetooth phone feature doesn't let you store your phone contacts, i.e. you have to remember all your numbers and manually dial them or dial them through the contacts menu of your phone, theres no "Address Book" on-screen.

4. Ipod connection is on the front of the unit not the back so you can't tuck your Ipod in the glovebox etc.

5. As said above the manual is rubbish, the screens in the manual look different to the ones on the actual H/U and the instructions are badly translated from chinese

May sound like I'm whinging but to be fair on it, it does what it's supposed to do and has replaced a TomTom which cost me £170 originally so not too fussed.
