Ebay Double DIN HU - Octy I VRS

Featured Replies

If you follow Nuriyans guide to installing Miopocket its pretty straightforward you just set it up so it boots up Miopocket off the SD card instead of booting a GPS system.

http://www.insanity-pvp.com/MioInstall/MioPocketInstall.htm

Then you can run various programs within Miopocket - there may be a web browser included in that.

Only problem I can see with using a USB dongle is you would only be able to connect to the internet if you are parked up near a free Wi-Fi hotspot. Otherwise you'd have to use your mobile phone as a modem which can get very expensive very quickly.

If I were you I'd replace the GPS software on it with TomTom - or update it to a more recent version of I-Go (which I believe is freely available on the net).

Couple more gripes I've noticed with mine:

1. It can't display more than 100 entries on a list of artists / albums on an ipod, so with my ipod plugged in I can only see up to the end of artists beginning with "B".

2. There's no way to rapidly scroll through stuff on the ipod, you have to keep pressing down-down-down for half an hour until you get to the artist or album you want :(

I think this is down to the ipod control software installed so if I can figure out how to update the firmware on it I will see if there's a more up-to-date version of the software I can put on it. Either that or get Mio-Pocket.

just bought one of these how did you lot attach it to the cage?

i have the little bracket slider things but there isnt much room for them in the cage with the HU

I didn't fit mine, another member (Cawmere) did it for me. As far as I can remember he fitted the metal cage into the double din sized hole first (bending the tabs to lock it in place), then screwed the two metal brackets to the sides of the stereo before sliding it into the cage.

Oh and we used a Mk4 Golf Fascia fitting kit... don't get the one marked as suitable for the Octavia as that is the wrong size

ah those two metal brackets on the side are well tight on mine, i will just have to give it a go then

got it in and working today, well apart from the radio and the tv

radio needs an extesion type socket and the tv........... well i aint got a clue any tips or guides to what you lot did for the tv part?

Instead of just the extension thing you might want to get one of the booster cable things from Halfords for the radio. The standard radio provides power to the aerial but the double din H/U doesn't do this so radio reception is not great (not that I use my radio anyway!). The cable from Halfords has a tube bit that goes between the H/U and the aerial cable and also has a wire which you need to connect to the antenna power feed wire from the back of the H/U.

For the TV, you will need a seperate TV aerial which can be run up behind the trim in one of the A-pillars, it plugs into two of the plugs at the back of the H/U

Plugs into the 2 leads marked "TV-ANT IN" here:

cheers for the reply

yeah i have got those exact tv antennas, all plugged in, also scanned all the sys options and still no tv :'(

looks like i need that ariel booster thing that good news:thumbup:

Have a word with Cawmere, he got the TV working on his. It's a bit crap to be honest, I think you have to be pulled up and in an area with the right signal to actually recieve anything.

Mine is just used for SD card, Ipod, GPS and DVD player... the only things that seem to work properly!

ah fair enough, for the gps and dvd and so on its pretty good i think

cheers

Great thread chaps ,a quick note regarding tv signals . most transmitters are going digital so it my not work in your region ,will probably need to connect a dvb-t box too it to get it working .

I just got one of these too, excellent for £200......just hope it lasts :)

What wire do it tap off to power the aerial?

Just got Tomtom on the unit.

Its ok I got it figured out

Would this fit a fabia?

If you have space for a double din I cannt see why not.

TomToms great on it, eh :) I definately prefer it to the I-Go stuff it comes with as standard.

The other day I finally got round to seeing if I could get music playing and the GPS working at the same time by using GPS2 on the remote. The result isn't great. Rather than leaving TomTom running and playing your music over the top, it closes TomTom so you can't see the route, and you go to your CD or whatever to listen to music, but then the TomTom directions interrupt the music all the time. :dull:

Hi guys

I'm new here and stumbled across this thread on google. Very informative and just what I'm looking for.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get the exact unit the OP has. Have looked on ebay but they all appear to slightly different.

Thanks

Also, what's the verdict of all the people who have bought one, now that you've had it a few months? Have they proved reliable?

  • 3 months later...

Think so aslong as it runs on windows I think. I'm waiting to see how long it is before they run on the new windows smart phone technology

I am looking at going down this route myself, the only issue is having read through this thread all the links & ebay adverts are dead.

Is this the unit you all have?

Further down the line, how have people found it? Still a good purchase, any regrets?

a question i do have is the fact i dont own an Ipod, so dont want to have the icon on screen. Can the icons be removed?

Cheers guys

Whats the difference between the VW & Skoda one? Who did you order it from? I am looking at a UK supplier for £300 as I am keen on getting some sort of warranty with it just being a chinese unit.

Several pages back there was the mention of several programs that required internet access. I was wondering if anyone managed this, with some sort of Wi-Fi dongle? Mainly for the route of Spotify & wondering if that would run on this...
