Police Vrs

Featured Replies

I saw yesteday in kent a mk1 vrs police estate on an 06 plate, now i know they still make the mk1 taxi however i thought the vrs went up to 2004 or 2005 at the latest, anyone else seen/know of an 06 vrs?

Far as i'm aware but could be wrong. The police can put any plate on their cars they want newer or older than the car

But the chances are it was lying around in a compound for a while then it got found and the police wanted it

We have a huge compound at my work, wouldn't be the first time a cars been parked here and forgotten about

Theres one over the road (Tunbridge Wells) which I think is an 06, it's the only Mk1 vRS estate they've got left here, all the others are Mk2 TDi 4x4s (lame )

there are still a few mk1 vrs octavias left in north kent, sometimes see them doing anpr checks at bluewater, however they also have some sti and evo cars by the bridge for rapid response.

I cant help but think the mk2 octavia whih seems to be the new police car of choice is indeed lame. Its not like its a vrs or a modified car so how to they plan to catch criminals. Their job is hard enough without having underpowered cars that will not handle when against either a sports/fast road or modified car!

So juego, the plates are not indicitve of the age of the car, so they havent 'got' skoda to 'produce' some extra cars, they are just old sock thats been sat around....shame!

Down here, there are MK2 vRSs stickered up. No regular MK2s that I've seen.

My local dealer sold an (new) 07 plate Mk 1 Octavia Vrs privately, in silver, I was led to believe that it was the Last new Mk1 in the country, not that my dealer would tell me Lie's............;) I did consider buying it.

My Mk1 vRS is an 06 plate - and I was told that was the last in the country. My dealer wasn't telling lies either.

That's wrong surely?

I'd have thought that all police vehicles have to abide by the VOSA/DVLA rules?

But the chances are it was lying around in a compound for a while then it got found and the police wanted it

More likely i'd have thought. The plate only refers to when the car is registered does it not? I'm sure that if I found an Austin Allegro that was unregistered, i could have it on a 09 plate?

totally untrue they are NOT allowed to to that...they may be the law but they have to abide by it as well...all vehicles are recorded at dvla and cant be changed unless a private reg is issued.

Thanks :) thats why i said i could be wrong

I am sure I saw a Mk I on an 08 plate the other day. It stood out to me as they shouldn't be that old, and whilst it's possible who would buy a car that has been sat around for so long? Would need new brakes, tyres and battery most probably. But it was a taxi!

I was led to believe that Skoda still make the Mk 1 Octavia bit there only for use as Taxi's. A colleague at work says he's seen a 09 Plate Taxi :)

Being currently in Greece I saw A LOT of mk1 octavias here which look like the VRS, even have a V badge (without the rs...which is strange), but the interior looks like a standard octavia mk1 (dash, seats, etc). I looked under them a bit and all had a SMIC, one even had a FMIC ;) so my guess is they are just 1.8Ts. Yesterday I saw one which had a custom rear badge, instead of VRS it said "GT 193bhp", which seems like a remapped 1.8T :)

I also saw quite a lot of older mk1 real VRS-es. Surprisingly, not one single car I looked at (about 15 in all) had under 93.000km on the clock.

Will have just sat at workshop and been registered late. They stock motors and register when they kit them out.

Actually that is not strictly true....... they can have several number plates issued to one vehicle at the same time to allow them to change it's identity at a moments notice, this is for unmarked cars belonging to certain specialist units. This is also requires the issue of several tax discs that match the plates. They will of course have an original 'birth' plate for admin reasons. The only way anyone else could do this is via a cherished transfer and at a cost of about £80 per change. They can use newer plates on an older car (which nobody can) but they must have been available on that model.

Yeah still make the mk1 for taxis saw an 08 plate just the other day.

Kent Police purchased a job lot of mk1 Octy vRS as part of the deal to turn the entire fleet to Octys and Fabias. They were phased in as and when the Peugeots and in some cases Volvos were replaced and then registered. Hence the plate.

I saw an 09 mk1 Octy taxi yesterday in Margate, seems they are more popular than the mk2 for that line of business!!!
