Buzz from the back

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a new Superb 2.0 SE 140TDI. I love it, and it is living up to its reputation as another excellent product from Skoda.

The only problem I've found is that there is a buzzing from the rear end, (it sounds more electrical than mechanical) and I can't identify what it is. The dealer thought it was the pump in the diesel tank, so that was replaced, but alas the buzz is still there. It only happens (or is audible) at low speeds or when stopped - I wondered if it could be the DPF or CAT? The dealer suggested it might be normal?

Has anyone else come accross the problem, or know what it might be?

Get them to check the exhaust heat shields. I had the same problem on a VW Polo, and it was the rear silencer heat shield buzzing!

Good idea, there's also the chance it's not a mechanical part, make sure you haven't left loose intems in the rear, and also get them to check the tail gate out, you could do this yourself btw, place towels all around it in the channels and between the metal and glass parts without causing the tail to be too packed out, i.e so it shuts properly, if the noise goes you know it's a tailgate fitment problem, hth.

Thanks guys, I've already tested the boot fittings and they are all ok - I think it will be going back to the dealer for them to put on a ramp and listen! Any other bright thoughts welcome!

In that case it's likely to be a relay somewhere, can you get your ear up against the door panels to hear it, and the only other thing that springs to mind is maybe some resonance in the exhaust due to it not being coked up enough yet or maybe a dpf problem if you have one, I'm not up on them but I do believe it communicates with the car electrically so it could be that, without hearing it it's very hard to tell from the keyboard :D

Things seem to be going from bad to worse with my new superb. The car is now misfiring (in all gears), when you're just pottering about, and then sometimes when you have to put your foot down it hesitates. The dealer has had it on the diagnostic machine but can't find anything wrong. In addition to that the dashboard has developed an annoying vibration somewheer on the centre consol that I can't find or stop - its driving me mad!!!!!!...and yesterday, I found that the one of fog lights has packed up (or maybe didn't work after they replaced them under the foglight recall)...sorry guys - had to have a rant somewhere!!!!!

I think I'd have had a rant at the dealer!

Nowadays, the "technician" seems to rely totally on the diagnostic plug, without a thought of road test, or getting the customer to demonstrate the fault(s). I have a degree of sympathy, given the tortuous process dealers have to go through to replace parts under warranty, but it's simply not good enough to say that there's nothing wrong with it when you clearly say that there is. Fog light - straight back to the dealer, anyway. Good luck!
