New hub needed!!!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Just found out that the last person to change the disc's on my wife's car managed to cross tread one of the calliper bolts and chew up most of the thread, now i need to get hold of a completely new hub!! Can anyone tell the best place to get a hub an d how much a new hub might cost please?

Thanks in advance

Tim

can you not drill out and re tap the hub with a bigger bolt, this would mean drilling the brake as well and you would need to do it the right size, just trying to help you save money, i'd be trying this first, or just re tap the threads again might clean them, just torque the bolt and just thread lock as well

Drill out the damaged thread, tap and insert a Helicoil.

Does anyone know what size/pitch the thread is on the calliper attachment bolts ?

It all depends on what size brakes you got...

If you have the 256mm front discs I am sure the thread on the end of those slider pins where they screw into the hub is M8x1.0mm

If you have the bigger 288mm front discs like on the vRS, then the bolts that hold the carrier onto the hub are M12x1.5mm, and the bolt that hold the caliper to the carrier are M8x1.0mm

My car is the 1.9tdi with the 256mm disc's. I'll try getting a helicoil kit.

Hi,

I've heard that the thread might be M8x1.25, is this right or is it M8x1.0?

I'm sure someone posted pics of a hub left over from when he bought some wheels recently...

Hello t111bul,

Assuming you mean Brake Caliper Housing, and not Wheel Hub Housing??

Fabia Vrs front calipers inner caliper carriage held on by 2 x 12m/m bolts.

Outer caliper carriage held on by 2 x 18m/m bolts.

Most threads I have come across I found (on my Fabia VRS) the pitch to be 1.5m/m by whatever diameter sized bolt.

Suggest buy new bolts and ask (Skoda) parts depot to determine diameter and thread pitch to refine your knowledge..

Suggest try to retap offending thread first, before any further money outlay.

If it doesn't work with the thread being too damaged, your choice could be drill larger hole ( my opinion not recommended) and fit helicoil.

Replace offending caliper with used/new part.

Good-luck which repair to choose to make.

Ah well, sorry if my advice did not get you a definative answer quicker, I still "think" that this guide pin thread is M9 x ?.??mm - not "standard" I know but that is quite often the way things are. Maplin sell a very good value for money "6 inch" digital calliper for checking up on these things. Generally speaking the VAG parts list will clearly define the parameters of a bolt or nut - but this part is a guide pin so probably does not "deserve" a full description wrt its thread.

I'd treat the previous comment on "most threads are 1.5 pitch" with a lot of caution - that simply is not a safe true guide to how things are with these cars - always measure the diameter and pitch if you need to know what is what.

Hi guys,

just thought I'd let you know my situation, it'smy wifes car which is in England and I work in France so it's hard to check things on the car from here. I have just ordered a new wheel bearing housing form Skoda and I will be home this weekend to fit it.

Thanks for the advice guys

t111bul, how much did it cost you, if you dont mind me asking.

Hxdave, it cost £105! Just can't be bothered with messing around as it's the wifes car and I want he to be safe.
