oh balls :(

quite.

18,500 miles (reg Jan 09) and no issues with the engine. Just serviced today. Only problems - a rear wheel bearing sound (going back next week - may be the tyre issues mentione din other threads), lumbar adjustment not working (never did) and occasional light water drips from top of door seals (to inside) in heavy rain while moving. Want the clear-up wipe switched on, as it doesn't have this active as my prior Octavia did.

Averageing 49mpg and some failry high speed work which is hardly economical.

Still delighted with the car.

TFFT :)

A shot in the dark on this but is there any recall mentioned anywhere to do with engine mounts on these?

I hope they sort all this out.

I don't want mayo in mine. Bread lightly toasted.

I'm not seeing what a sandwhich has to do with this ;)

I do hope this seemingly non-isolated issue is resolved, seriously considering cancelling my order.

Same mileage and serviced this week - and no vibration issues either thankfully....

I get the same wheel bearing noise though, so would be interested to hear outcome!!!

Will be watching this issue develop with interest though.....

Why? Not every car will suffer the same faults.

If every car suffered the same faults at the same mileages then the maker would soon go out of business!

There must be loads of these cars which have gone well beyond the mileages mentioned here and not had a single problem.

It's just the luck of the draw.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear !!!!!

Today still no response from Skoda, so as I had a few minutes I thought I'd have a quick poke around under the bonnet.

I spotted wedged between a hose/pipe and the engine just under the air filter box, a red plastic lid about 4 inches in diameter by 1/2 inch high. This could be seen if looking at an angle without having to remove anything from the engine bay and I managed to fish it out with a piece of wire.

The vibration is still there at 1500 rpm but unbelievably the engine now feels smoother through the rest of the rev range (very much as it had been prior to the service).

Although this hasn't solved the problem it casts doubt on how well the dealer inspected the engine for any loose items after my initial complaint of vibration when the car was returned following the service.

I look the offending article to the dealer and suprise, suprise they denied that it had been there when they inspected the engine (twice). The service manager said that he had personally inspected the engine with the air filter box, scoop and hoses removed and that he could "categorically" say it was'nt there 2 weeks ago when it was last inspected :thumbdwn:. One problem, no one else has lifted the bonnet since the car was picked up 2 weeks ago , so unless the fairies at the bottom of the garden have been at it again, Ill leave you to your own conclusions.

Again, this has'nt fixed the serious vibration at 1500 rpm, but at least it doesnt feel like a tractor the rest of the time.

What happened to the Avensis?

I seemed to be in the minority in ordering a petrol vRS, but glad I have. However, I do hope the issues are sorted, but these Dervs seem very complex and a pain to put right. I reckon the plastic lid might have been put there BY the dealer maybe trying to fix it! Fingers crossed.

sounds like something you might use to put screws in as you remove them from, say, the airbox cover etc to stop them getting lost...

Thats exactly what I first thought it could have been used for and am slightly concerned that if it was, what was in it when it fell into the engine ????. Dealer denied this and said they use special magnetic trays to put loose bolts/srews in.

I would'nt mind so much if the dealer had admitted the possibility of missing it ( its not such a big deal and we all make mistakes) but I cannot stand being blatantly lied to !!!!!!!!

Could be something else in there thats causing the vibration that still persists.

Take it to another dealer and tell them the tale of woe. They will go he extra mile to locate the source of trouble if it means nicking trade off a competitor.

Engine code for euro 4 compliant 1.9 pd in fab vrs, search for stutter ;)

Unfortunately as much as I wish it was, it isnt the old air scoop problem.

You can feel the vibration through the pedals, steering wheel and drivers seat both when revved stationary and when on the move.

Funny you should mention the out of balance wheel feel as I have recently noticed this at high speed.

It appears that cars effected vary in mileage, if you notice this on any other car with the CR170 engine dont be fobbed off by the dealer, there is a problem and it needs addressing !!!!!

What is this "airscoop problem" that keeps getting mentioned ?? I have a over run vibration in my PD140.

Is there any chance the vibration is caused by a DMF in the early stages of failure ? Just mentioning it as the vibration seems related to engine revs.

You would think (hope ?) the dealers would be aware of the possibility (DMF failures being so common), but these days I suppose anything is possible

I hate how dealers and manufacturers deny all knowledge of a problem, and later on it turns out to be quite a widespread issue. I suffered this with a faulty oil cooler on my Transporter (5 dealer visits to finally get all the engine oil out of the coolant), and there ended up being a "campaign" to replace them all 4 months after mine failed, this was 6 months after it was obvious there was a serious problem with them.

I have a CR170 with DSG box.. it's now just over 12 months old and has about 36k kilometers on the clock. I haven't noticed any stutter but for the first time during the weekend I actually paid attention to engine noise whilst idling at traffic lights. I don't remember really hearing the "diesel clutter" earlier.. and I read this thread only now so it isn't placebo caused by this thread :) I'm not sure if it's anything to worry about.. could be I just haven't noticed it earlier but after this thread I'll certainly keep tracking it.

What I found interesting also was the mentioning of wheel bearing noise. I could swear I noticed also similar "howling" coming from the back last weekend.. I did a quick 600km road trip during sunday and noticed it on several occasions. I'll have to keep tracking that as well..

I haven't had any problems with the car yet but these new noises and this thread are certainly worrying.. luckily it's a company car so I won't have to pay for anything in any case, but I wouldn't like the extra effort involved with any of this.

Keep posting ppl, we need to see this through!

The wheel bearing noise is probably wear on the inside edge of the rear tyres. They get feathered and cause a noise just like wheel bearing drone.

Im on 31k miles in my CR170 VRS.

No issues at all - other then a blown turbo which was replaced! Still incredibly happy with it.

Nearly 10k up here on a 58 plate CR170 vRS.

No issues that I've noticed other than my aircon compressor getting replaced as it was leaking.

Hi there.

I own a TDI 170 combi 06 plate, ive had no problems from new but i am aware that the clutch on all late VAG cars can be on the limit when car laden and say pulling away on a gradiant especially in reverse.

My car can judder under these circumstances unless i use carefull throttle and clutch control. This leads to overheating , the main reason why the Dual mass flywheels fail and this has been an ongoing problem on some cars both FSI and TDI. If this happens the two sections of the flywheel cause more vibration than they are meant to damp out it's just that the damping is far more critical on the diesels.

If you suspect the clutch has got overheated it may be worth checking out

Chris.
