Wheel spin

Featured Replies

Does anyone here ever spin the wheels when you have the traction control on (ASR)? I have noticed that mine carries on spinning if I keep the power on, but I thought that's what the ASR was for to minimise wheel spin?

Any thoughts?

Mine starts to for about 0.05 seconds then ASR kicks in, it really is very minimal spin. But it may also be the wheel just leaving/touching the floor as you take it round a corner?

Silly question Karlos, but are you sure you've got the traction control ON? The default mode is on, and pressing the button turns it OFF. AFAIK it resets itself every time you turn the ignition off, too.

If the orange light is on then the traction contol is on isn't it?

And the orange symbol near the speedo...or does that mean its off?

I need someone with a Fabia with traction control to answer this, but my understanding is the opposite. If the light is permanently ON, it means you've turned the TC system OFF. AIUI, if the TC system is ON, the light will flash only when the system is invoked, i.e. when the wheels start to spin.

Someone with a Fabia with ASR help me out here!

yes if light on the spedo is on the tc is off ;)

Thanks for that...it probably explains why I've been lighting up my tyres!! :o

To be fair it is a bit strange when the circle with the triangle in ( traction control ) is lit up on the dash board its OFF and when its not lit up its ON.

The traction control system in the Fabia is an absolute joke IMO. The way it has been implemented just seems very poor, and with little afterthought. As you have noticed, its still possible to get the wheels to spin with it on, but it kicks in in a very dramatic and unrefined manner, and I'd even go so far as to say its dangerous. For example, being in a mid bend and having it kick in unleashing terminal understeer is not what a so called safety device should be for, IMO. Not only that, but the jerk you get when accelerating hard from 1st to 2nd gear really slows your progress and makes it jerky.

The best traction control system is your right foot, end of story. So dont be a pansy, and drive with it off all the time (yes, even in the rain) ;)

All safety systems that only have a light up when they are off or have a fault, whats strange about that?

Light on = traction OFF

Light off = traction ON

I turn my TC off every time I get in the car... Rain or Shine.

It's crap. Waste of time and I don't know why everyone's getting so worked up about the New Polo GT not having it as standard...

Learn how to drive and it shouldnt come on anyhow, its all about progressive control.

Sorry its probably me being a bit simple.

The ASR switch does not alter when you press it but the heated window switch changes colour green off , yellow on. I was expecting the ASR switch to change when it was pressed.

It doesnt need to change colour as it flags a bleeding great light up on the dash board ;)

All I was trying to say was I was a bit confused at first until I checked the manual.

Good on you for checking your manual though, most dont and assum incorrectly ;)

I don't think I will mention traction control again for a while :)

And also, manual does get it blatently wrong sometimes too. Like giving the wrong bulb type info

I think the bulb info in the latest manual is correct. I better not say what it says because this will probably start a huge number of posts on the subject :)

traction control on the 4x4 is stooooopid, it cuts in when the front wheels spin, before the rears spin so the TC cuts in before the 4x4. so with it on the fronts spin and the car dramitically cuts power, if it waited then the 4x4 would cut in and most of the time TC would not be used
